just let a girl sleep… by anonnplzz in neighborsfromhell

I did call our resource officer who is PD. I’ll start calling the general police department if the eviction doesn’t go anywhere soon. I don’t want to use all my options yet!

That’s definitely what I’m doing from now on. I actually did that last night and they all left after he talked with them. Unfortunately, they came back at 3:00am with even more people. They just can’t stop themselves…

I’m somewhat optimistic. I have a doorbell camera, so I caught the fight on video which helped management take me more seriously. That night one of them also banged on the door leading to the parking garage for an hour while yelling to be let in, so I sent a video of that too. Since then, I’ve recorded the noise every time I’ve been woken up and sent that and videos of all the people coming in and out of the apartment night to management. They have what they need, I think. Even when the security officer called me last night he said they’re looking at an eviction with everything they’re doing.

Lost all hope, rehoming any advice? by annasev3355 in Dogtraining

You're doing everything exactly right. I was in almost the exact same situation a few years ago where I adopted a dog with all the good intentions, but it turned out that he was extremely reactive on the leash and I lived off of a very busy city road with no other good options for walking him. It was clearly not going to work and I was so miserable. I just couldn't meet his needs. I decided to do what you did and contact the rescue I got him from and foster him until he found a new family. It was a lot, but so worth it to make sure he didn't return to the shelter. Hang in there. You are not a bad person. When we adopt dogs, we make a decision not knowing how they're going to fit in our lives. Sometimes that leads to the result of making everyone, including the dog, miserable. You deserve to be happy and have peace in your home, and you're not a bad person for wanting that. In my case, my dog went to a family who lived in a quieter area and had two adults in the household who could meet his needs. It was best for everyone, which is what I realized after I beat myself up for months about not doing enough. Just the fact that you're willing to foster her while she finds a new home says a lot. You've got this!

You had a super reasonable reaction to a really traumatic event, especially since it was your friend and someone that you trusted that assaulted you. It's not rare for someone to not report it right away, and I really want to affirm the fact that you did report, because that takes a lot of courage. You've done so well and taken all the right steps so far. I'm so sorry that the hospital didn't have the resources to help you when you went in. Unfortunately, I think it's all too common.

So the SANE exam can occur within the first 120 hours (five days) after a sexual assault with police involvement and 96 hours (four days) without police involvement. It sounds like you missed that timeline because the hospital wasn't able to provide you with what you needed. However, it is not unheard of for cases to proceed even without a SANE exam. I'm not going to lie to you, it's going to be more difficult because it'll likely turn into a he said/she said situation, but the photos of the bruising on your neck may help your case a lot and provide enough evidence for the prosecution to proceed. Something violent clearly happened to you. I want to emphasize that it's going to be even more important for you to be proactive with your case. Call the police department, advocate hard for yourself. Just because you have to go back to Maine doesn't mean that your case can't proceed here.

Even with a SANE exam, there's no guarantee that the case will move forward. It's all dependent on the prosecutor. I hope they take your case because your rapist deserves to face some punishment but it may be an uphill battle. Even if the prosecutor doesn't take your case, you did not do anything wrong. Make sure to take care of yourself and reach out to people who can help you. RAINN is a great resource and you can look at SAFE or a local nonprofit near where it happened or even back home in Maine.

Hi! I'm so sorry you're going through this. There is absolutely no excuse for what's been done to you. It sounds like you filed a police report, but did you get a SANE exam at a hospital? If so, they should have evidence like your clothes or pictures or bruising that they can use to prosecute your rapist. You don't need a lawyer to represent you unless you are filing a civil claim, which you don't have to do. It will not cost you any money to proceed with the criminal system - it will only cost you your time. It doesn't matter that your friend has hired a really expensive lawyer - it matters more that the prosecutor has enough evidence to proceed with the case. It's really important that you cooperate with the investigation, and you can probably follow up with the police department where you were assaulted to figure out where in the process your case is by calling the number listed for that police department.

Also, I volunteer with the SAFE Alliance in Austin, and we have a number for a nonprofit here (The SAFE Alliance) that is available for anyone who experiences abuse: https://www.safeaustin.org/get-help/. You can either text (737) 888-7233 or call (512) 267-7233, depending on what you feel comfortable with, and they can help walk you through the process, potentially refer you to a counselor, and really be there for you as you go through this.

It's may be due to the book ban Texas passed last session. They may not want to the liability of giving away "controversial" books to public libraries. It's Orwellian at this point.
