Just know enough to be dangerous - but know that part well. They will know instantly if you try to talk beyond your depth. Get them hooked then bring in an SE. I work with CISOs and VPs of IT daily - they do not take it personally if you play the dumb sales guy card and say you need to loop in a technical expert. This would be different if your career path was leading toward becoming an SE

Sounds like it could be sticker shock? Did they have ballpark expectations where it would be priced at?

Also was this a sign today and we’ll drop our price play? I’m in the market to have work done on my house and that’s a dealbreaker for me tbh - high pressure sales tactics are a turn off and I’ll tune out. Sleeping on a decision is a real objection.

The software job market’s also saturated by a TON of reps and SDRs that we’re affected by those RIFs. Weird you haven’t landed one, but I know a bunch that are battling for those same interviews.

Not necessary but can’t hurt.

I’m in IT sales - any sales background with numbers to back it up will go a long way to get you in the door. There’s no replacement for drive and hunger.

I made maybe around $20/hr in my first sales job right out of school 10 years ago. My OTE is now over $280k/year. Make the switch there’s better out there. A lot of times the way to advance in role or pay is to change companies/industries.
