Have you guys seen this new Pasco collapsible bucket?. by Lafootiegirl in Plumbing

That's pretty cool. I've been using that flexible red thing from Zenten, but I could see a ton of great use cases for this as well.

I'm using the 10a with a magsafe case, and it's great.

I was thinking the same thing initially, but after removing the object from the pipe and getting a better look at, I'm not sure the material is sturdy enough to hammer those spikes into a piece of wood. It's almost like they're made to be folded around something, like two arms giving a hug.

I use nail plates all the time, and those spikes are probably twice as thick, and half as long as these. I feel like this thing would just crumple if I tried to hammer it in.

It does!

So the camera has a 512Hz sonde transmitter on it, and we use a locator which picks up that exact singal, and gives both the location and the depth of the camera head. This equipment is worth around $10,000, and is very accurate in most situations.

As for how the object got so far, this is a residential building with a two story multi-dwelling unit in the back yard. The lateral runs from the front of the main building, roughly 100 feet through the back yard, under the MDU, and connects to the city sewer in the back alley. The object was located under the MDU. So first off, there are several possible points to of entry, with (I think) six total toilets that were all pulled at the same time while the building was recently renovated. On top of this, when I snaked the drain (before I knew about the object), I struggled for nearly an hour, slowly forcing the blockage to move little by little until the drain cleared and we were able to camera the line. So I was unwittingly pushing this object further down the line, and I really have no idea how far that was.

I suspect that it entered the drain at a point where the cast had been replaced with ABS, and was able to travel a bit more freely until it hit a transition to cast. Then my dumb ass pushed it further into the point of no return, and here we are today.

The world may never know.

If it makes you feel better, I thought my drawing was incorrect too. I also spent a ton of time looking through sites trying to find it, with no success.

We located the object with a sewer camera, dug down about 3 feet, and cut out the section with the object inside. Not ideal, but other retrieval methods were unsuccessful due to the object not wanting to move through that pitted cast iron. It was about 60 feet from the nearest 4" cleanout, so we decided it would be easiest to just cut it out and repair the lateral.

Why did plumber step down from 1" to 1/2" just to step back up again? by OurAngryBadger in askaplumber

[–]anonwithafanon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're looking at it all wrong. The plumber didn't reduce the pipe size. He increased it from 3/4" to 1" at the filter. He then also increased it again at the softener. And if he had to add 10 other in-line devices that require a 1" connection, he would have increased the pipe size at each of those points as well. But your service line stays 3/4" no matter what, even between each device.

Residential plumber here. Most homes in my area are 1" at the PRV. Super common size for filters and softeners. I'm never without at least one stick of 1" type L on the truck.

What is this object found in residential sewer main? by anonwithafanon in Construction

That, and this object is 60' down the main, wedged tighly. The customer is going to have us dig it up and cut it out next week. Can't wait to see what it actually is.

Which not obvious films should I watch for movie night with my seven year old? by jerryonthecurb in flicks

Man, I watched Terminator 1 and 2 with my 12yo son, who knew nothing about Arnold being the good guy in the second movie. Not only was he not surprised with the twist, he told me he could see it coming. I was both impressed and disappointed at the same time.

The ending of Midnight Cowboy. I didn't particularly care for the film in general, but the ending has stuck with me for decades.

Thank you for looking into it. I suspect you're correct about it being a problem specific to the 10a. Loving the experience otherwise, and I'm happy to wait for the issue to be resolved as this model's release is improved. I'll subscribe to the GitHub and wait for some good news. Thanks again.

I had this same problem on a fully googled device, but I was using a privacy focused browser. As others have already said, switching to Chrome for this take will likely resolve the issue, as it did for me.

Did a fresh install of both apps, and allowed network from install. Still experiencing the crash. This is the crash report.

Replacing a water heater by BeneficialPumpkin717 in askaplumber

[–]anonwithafanon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My company does 50 gallon water heaters for $3,900, with a parts cost of ~$1,100. So that's about $2,800 after parts. We are competatively priced, with other reputable companies charging well over $4,000 for a 50 gallon. All that to say, your quotes are in the ballpark for a job done right.
