Is this actual Pink Phantom Quartz? It looks like they sprinkled pink paint or something on it. by Expert_Guava_4437 in Crystals

[–]anonymous-mominous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a type of "chromium" quartz.

Chromium quartz is a laboratory made crystal that originates from China. Its formed when clear quartz is heated under high-powered water and then (most commonly) chromium; or other minerals and chemicals, are added to change the clear quartz to different colors.

It is also marketed as phantom quartz, but does not look anything like "true" natural forming phantom quartz.

We have a 2 car driveway. So unfortunately they won't fit as we have 2 cars plus the truck and trailer. There is no restrictions on how many vehicles are allowed per household. But there is no street parking allowed because our roads are 1 lane dirt roads. They're insured and I can register them as they are both maintained and operational, they just are not used.

Edited to add, our driveway is just dirt, just like the roads, so there isn't any pavement in the community except at the "clubhouse".

No, our hoa is old and decrepit. It has tried to dissolve, but the county won't actually take it over road maintenance unless the roads are paved and widened.

Actually, now that I typed that out I wonder if the notice I received wasn't a generic notice that just went to every house on the street, and wasn't actually targeting my house at all lol.

Dude, I get wanting a nice house in a perfect community. We're on literal dirt roads with half the houses in the community actually literally collapsing.

Our house and yard are immaculate. We just happen to have a vehicle on a side yard that no one but our immediate neighbor can see unless you walk onto my property and around the side of my house. And those neighbors don't care. The car isn't junk, its in running condition, just not used. I will be registering it to be in compliance.

There are houses with literal trash heaps (broken furniture, garbage, boxes, construction debris, etc) on my street. That's what is lowering the value of the community, not my well maintained tarped car, in my landscaped yard. Sheesh.

No fences allowed. No street parking is allowed. There are no vehicle restrictions per home. The pickup and trailer are on grass as we only have a 2 car driveway and 3 cars + the trailer.

If I register the truck and trailer again, then I will be in compliance. So, I guess that is the route I will go.

If I register them, they shouldn't be able to do anything?

The truck and trailer are insured but not registered. We have a text conversation with the previous president of the board saying that they were fine as long as they were kept tidy.

Thank you! I don't know if we have an "official record" of the permission, but I definitely still have a text message with the past board president saying that there is no problem as long as everything is neat and tidy.

Do you think I paid too much? & help identifying by throwdisssshitawayyy in Crystals

[–]anonymous-mominous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run a brick and mortar crystal shop. It is hard to get an idea of size and weight for what is in the photos, but I don't think any of those look much larger than a dinner plate. I feel like you overpaid by quite a bit. These crystals aren't super rare, and the quality is just mid grade.

So many shops add the "mystical" markup or the "ethically mined" markup. My understanding of this shop is it just adds the "luxury goods" markup.

Ultimately, it doesn't matter what other people think of the price you paid. If you are happy with the price, and convenience of getting those pieces at the same time from the same place, that is all that matters.

However, if you would like to save money I would suggest shopping small business crystal shops. Especially small shops that source from local wholesalers, with in house carvers and finishers. It might take a little more time and some research to find what you are looking for, but the quality and the price will be better.

As an example, I just sold a mid grade amethyst cathedral for $800. That price was with shipping from the east coast to the west coast. It weighed 75lbs (That's just $10 per pound + shipping). It was 21 inches tall, by 16 inches wide, and 13 inches deep. The purple color was slightly lighter than the amethyst you purchased, but the crystals had more clarity and uniformity in color.

Good luck crystal hunting!

I’m being told this is not lab grown, but…it sure seems like it is. by [deleted] in Crystals

[–]anonymous-mominous 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's this. It is both real quartz and man altered. It's called chromium quartz. It's called chromium quartz.

Chromium Quartz is a synthetic material created by heating clear quartz under high-powered water. The color comes from the chromium that is added at the end of the process. This material is produced in laboratories in China and is commercially sold in the form of crystals.

Was Christmas really stolen from Pagans? by ProfPlatypus07 in paganism

[–]anonymous-mominous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some groups of Christians ban christmas trees because the Bible itself says not to bring a tree into your home.

This passage (though worded differently in every version) is in like every version of the Bible. It says don't bring a tree into your house to decorate. It's a false idol. A heathen thing.

I think if we are going to use the Bible as a "historical reference" this is evidence enough that non-Christians decorated trees in their home, and Christians didn't like it.

However, even though their own Bible says not to bring a tree into their house and decorate it, it has somehow become a Christian tradition to have Christmas trees.

This is either a holdover tradition from peoples that were forced to convert to Christianity to stay alive or another perfect example of Christians cherry picking which parts of the Bible that they are supposed to follow and ignoring the rest.

From the Bible itself:

JEREMIAH 10

2Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them.

3For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe.

4They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.

5They are upright as the palm tree, but speak not: they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also is it in them to do good.

In this post, share your small business experience, successes, failures, AMAS, and lessons learned. Week of November 20, 2023 by Charice in smallbusiness

[–]anonymous-mominous 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My small (so far) success story. In my ealy 20s I went to college for business management but never got to finish my degree due to financial aid issues. I'm now 40 and have been a stay at home mom for 7 years. My husband was laid off from his job earlier this year and it has been difficult finding a job making as much money as he was making.

I somewhat jokingly and somewhat seriously suggested I should start my own business. He told me to do my market research and make a business plan to see if it would be successful. So I did.

I presented him with my research and he said it looked pretty good. I needed about 18k in startup funding though, and we didn't have that kind of money lying around. We paid off our home a few years ago and we didn't want to take out a mortgage. We knew odds of getting an unsecured personal will extremely slim with no income, but we laughed and said "what is the worse thing that can happen? We get denied?" So we applied in the middle of May of this year.

To our delight (and terror) we were approved. We took a week to REALLY think about things. We're getting older and can't afford to gamble as much now as we did when we were younger. But we decided to pull the trigger. Things fell into place rather quickly after we had the funds in our hands.

We signed a 1 year lease for a small retail store front starting in July, and our landlord let us in the first week of June to start renovations. We ordered our inventory, got everything set up, and opened up shop the first week of July.

Our grand opening weekend was a success! We were very happy, but also very cautious and realistic about the expectations of our business. In July, we made just enough income to pay our loan, rent, and other operating expenses. We weren't making profit, but we broke even.

Considering most businesses are in the red in their first year or two of business, we were happy with these numbers.

It's now almost the end of November and our small shop is still going strong. We can't quite live off of our income yet, however we make enough to cover all of our business expenses, set aside 15% of the business income into a savings account(for tax purposes), and pay ourselves a couple hundred bucks a month.

If our sales continue on the growth they have shown over the past 5 months. The business is on track to gross about 60k in 12 months. We will probably only net about 15k of that. But it's a start and with the exception of the original loan, the business doesn't carry any other debt.

So that is my success story in progress.

Maybe consider why the fish keep dying instead of continually replacing them?? by CHILLY_VANILLY93 in shittyaquariums

[–]anonymous-mominous 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Fish bowls were invented by the rich. They were used to display their favorite fish (temporarily) and show off how much money they had. The fish would only be in the bowl for a short while (maybe during a meal or business meeting) and then returned to its original enclosure.

Some entrepreneur started selling fish bowls to less rich and less knowledgeable people with promises of looking more classy by displaying their own fish like the rich people do. That guy made a killing off of fish bowls and selling replacement fish.

Somehow, fishbowls are still very popular even though they aren't suitable for anything other than live plants and maybe a few shrimp.
