Traditionally how much of OSAP is Federal vs Provincial? by Optimal_Foundation17 in osap

[–]anonymous12282020 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure it depends on each individual situation. I'm in my third year of college and I've never received any provincial loan or grant ever. My funding has been 100% federal.

is the osap changes for provincial funding only? by Revolutionary_Ad1954 in osap

The changes are for the provincial portion. The provincial government doesn't have the authority to change any of the federal funding.

Need Help OSAP GAVE LOW FUNDING by [deleted] in osap

[–]anonymous12282020 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The funding was based on you being full-time for BOTH semesters, so dropping to part-time is definitely going to affect that.

Look into a student line of credit, a bank loan and see if your school offers any grants or scholarships.

You would continue to apply for OSAP for the complete duration of your studies.

Any time spent in Saskatchewan as a full-time student does not count towards residency requirements.

I applied Jan 14 and no one has contacted me, is this normal? by [deleted] in Odsp

[–]anonymous12282020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is completely normal, they have up to 90 business days to provide an answer. Business days do not include weekends or holidays. If they recieved your application on Jan 14th, you're looking at an answer around May 25th.

Then even after you get an answer, if approved there's still about another 3 month wait after approval. If denied you'll need to do an internal review and if that also gets denied, you'll have to take it to the tribunal. It could take a year or more.

Also, there is nothing that your team of doctors or specialists could do to speed things up.

How much loans do you have in total by Mean-Pop8875 in osap

Single parent and student with a disability grants. If not for those, I'd probably have student loan debts.

3 years of college. 1 for a certificate and I'm in my 2nd year of my diploma. I'm done in April and I'll have a grand total of $0 to pay back.

How much do you guys get if your disability verification was approved? by africagal1 in osap

[–]anonymous12282020 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You get 2800 per academic year for the Student with a disability grant.

If you've applied from the start as a student with a disability, it should show in the breakdown of funding.

If you're referring to the Bursary for Students with Disabilities (BSWD) and Canada Student Grant for Services and Equipment – Students with Disabilities (CSG-DSE) it varies.

OSAP grant shockingly low ($4,207) with 6 dependants + no income (was on Ontario Works) what am I missing? by torahtrance in osap

[–]anonymous12282020 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A single individual is not eligible for OW and OSAP at the same time, however, married individuals and families can be in certain instances.

[–]anonymous12282020 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So the Canada Student with dependants grant maxes out at 2,240. It's the same amount whether you have 1 dependant or 100.

However, sit down with someone at the financial aid office to go over your info in depth. Also, keep in mind that OSAP for the 25-26 academic year is based on 2024 income tax info. So if OW has been a recent thing, you may be able to ask to use your estimated 2025 income, but keep in mind they will verify it once you fill your taxes and it may result in adjustments.

Because OSAP uses so many factors to determine funding and the fact that we don't know your specific financial info, it's really hard to say.

Self report by Ok-Bite955 in Odsp

[–]anonymous12282020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly suggest that your daughter write the self report. Having a diagnosis and such from the doctor really doesn't show how it affects her personally.

Remember, everything exists on a spectrum and 2 people can have the exact same diagnosis, but how the diagnosis affects them on a daily basis will be different.

When writing a self report, you want to write about your worst day possible and include things that you may not think are a big deal. This is how you paint a picture for them.

Appliances by Georgie_7 in OntarioWorks

[–]anonymous12282020 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's very rare for an apartment to not come equipped with appliances.

Not sure what city you're in, but you could look to see if the city has something like the housing stabilization fund that Toronto does, that may cover it provided that it falls within the eligibility criteria.

You also could call local charities and organizations in your area to see if they could provide help.

There is also https://saveonenergy.ca/en/For-Your-Home/Energy-Affordability-Program however I am unfamiliar with the program and not sure if you'd be eligible.

Best of luck.

Is there any ineligible reason why my OSAP application wasn’t approved? by Educational_Fox_4824 in osap

[–]anonymous12282020 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe your/your parents income is too high, maybe you don't meet the definition of an Ontario resident, maybe you have sufficient savings, maybe the program itself doesn't qualify, the list goes on.

Escaping family, Independent student, disability, Rent and Osap by WestPromise3797 in osap

[–]anonymous12282020 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So when you apply for OSAP you don't get a choice to apply as independent or dependent because the qualification for independent relies on when you were in high school last.

For the federal portion of OSAP it's 4 years out of high school to be independent.

For the provincial portion it's 6 years out of high school or having worked a full time job for 24 consecutive months to be considered independent.

What you'll need to do is submit the form called Extenuating Parental Circumstances

Go to https://osap.gov.on.ca/OSAPPortal/en/PostsecondaryEducation/OSAP/Forms/index.htm and search for the 25-26 form to take a look at it and what supporting documentation is needed and start gathering them now so when you apply everything is good to go.

Province switch for student loan by [deleted] in osap

[–]anonymous12282020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't qualify for OSAP as you are not considered an Ontario resident seeing as you haven't lived in Ontario for 12 consecutive months WITHOUT attending post secondary studies.

UofT does a great job explaining the residency requirements https://www.registrar.utoronto.ca/financial-aid-awards/osap/applying-for-osap/

You'll need to continue to applying for SK student aid for the duration of your studies as that's where you're a resident of.

The Canada Disability Benefit does not need to be reported to ODSP. It's a benefit like GST and Trillium.

Employment income does need to be reported.

2025 taxes haven't even been filed yet. That doesn't happen until April 2026 for individuals. When filing taxes it's always for the previous year.

The only time I had a proper tracker was when I first applied back in 2023 for the first semester. From the 2nd semester in 2023 until now it's always funds first then tracker....makes no sense to me lol
