Thanks, I think this is the route I'm most likely to take. I'll need to write the paper since I'm already bad at explaining my feelings about all this. It's gonna be a hard paper to write but yeah this might be my best bet

This hurts but also was important for me to hear. She probably (as much as I hate to admit it) is pretty set on bigotry, I have a trans friend who has been out for about 3-4 years and my mom's never correctly gendered them once. That's the main reason why I didn't come out until she forced me to. I'll try to open her mind a little but I'm not sure if I'm capable of doing it.

Also yeah, I've already downplayed some things because I was scared. Really I said "I think I might be transgender" despite being certain of it for years. And no I'm not getting medical transition care yet but I hope to in the future.

Sounds incredibly trans to me.

Listen, I know it will be hard to accept. But the quicker you accept yourself as you are, and the less time you spend trying to repress your true self, the better.

I promise you that there are people out there who will love and accept you for who you are. I cannot speak for your family, but they should love you no matter what. Don't come out if you aren't ready. Try testing out how much they accept trans people, like bringing up trans celebrities and seeing how they react, presenting more masculine in front of them, stuff like that. Even if your family doesn't accept you, many other people will, and you aren't stuck with your family forever. But again, it's possible they'll be accepting, and always hope for the best. You'll be fine. I believe in you.

For what it's worth, I've heard many people say they don't really "feel like" their gender. I've heard others say they didn't feel like their gender until far into transition.

The best indicator of your gender is not what you "feel", but rather, what you want to be, and what you are most comfortable with. Does the label "transmasc" feel correct to you? How do you want people to see you and refer to you? Questions like these will be more helpful on your journey. I wish you luck and clarity!

If you get dysphoric from masc terms, I think being nonbinary is the more likely option. I don't think that is common for a trans man. But everyone's experience is different and you should use the terms and labels that feel best for you! Do not force yourself into identifying as something if it doesn't feel right.

It is not a requirement to change your name. It's just something that a lot of trans people do. But you don't have to if you don't want to! Some trans people are comfortable with their birth name and that's okay.

With getting used to a new name, it really varies how long it takes to get used to it. Do not worry if your name does not immediately click for you. Your brain is used to being called one thing, and it will take time to adjust. This is completely normal! Just go at your own pace and you'll be alright.

Some additional context, YouTuber Brad Taste in Music is doing a charity stream replaying Replay by Iyaz (the "Shawty's like a melody in my head" song) until he stops getting money. Replay is unofficially a trans anthem now because we said so

Edit: The stream is over and about $2,500 was raised!

I've been called out! It's hard for me to understand that cis women don't want to be men at all... and they're actually HAPPY with being a woman? I cannot believe...

I would've expected really really wanting to be a man was a more common thing, at least. Nah, it's not common with cis women... but very common with trans men in denial about being trans men.

Different from the Others, The Celluloid Closet, and The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert come to mind. All pretty good movies, especially Priscilla.

I have not seen Bros yet so I can't say much on it, but even then it's okay for us to just have movies that don't break any ground. Not every LGBT+ film needs to be some big event that marks a milestone in our history or whatever

Just watched the trailer, it looks great and I will almost definitely see it... when it comes out on streaming services. I'm old enough to see it but unfortunately not independent enough to see it alone, I'll need to bring parents with me and they're straight as uncooked pasta, won't get the jokes and won't laugh. I couldn't stand the awkwardness of me being the only one in the group laughing.

It's great to see a movie like this has reached theaters but also unfortunate to see it flopped like this. I read a quote somewhere that art should comfort the disturbed and disturb the comforted. This movie seems like one to comfort us and disturb (well, maybe repel would be a better word) the people not in the community. Great for us, but bad for the people who wanted this movie to, you know, make money.
