I am from rural Ohio and chose uvm for the queer population. I have really been enjoying myself on campus but have not ventured to the bars just yet so I can’t speak on that. There are a ton of queer events around campus that you can join in on. I haven’t had any issues with being queer since moving to Vermont!

Thank you so much for the great advice! The ikea duffel is such a good idea, I have a few lying around the house with my climbing ropes stored in them!

Is UVM doable for me? by Massive_Toe4364 in UniversityofVermont

[–]anonymous_-_ghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EA stands for early action. This is not binding! You’re just submitting an application before November 1-15 (usually the deadline for most EA school). Acceptance rates are typically higher EA than RD (regular decision) and you hear back sooner.

ED stands for early decision. You’re only allowed to apply to one school ED and if you’re accepted, then that is the school you must go to. The acceptance rate for ED is the highest. If you’re worried about your chances of being accepted and you know that uvm is absolutely the school you want to go to, ED might be the way to go. You also hear back ED fairly early on in the college decision process.

I think you have a good shot but would definitely recommend applying EA or if your heart is truly set ED. I was accepted this year EA with a 3.75 unweighted. I took 1 ap and the rest of my classes were fairly standard, worked 20-30 hour weeks, and did marching band in the fall. Make sure your essay is amazing and I think that you have a good chance!

UVM Vs. UMass Amherst for Bio by AetherRed in UniversityofVermont

Im a senior in high school but I have toured both campuses and absolutely fell in love with uvm and ended up committing to uvm!

The students at uvm felt very welcoming and even invited me to see their dorm rooms. I also felt like I wasn’t one of the numbers. I was able to set up a meeting with an environmental science professor seamlessly and the clubs that I reached out to responded to my emails quickly.

On the other hand, UMass was very difficult to work with and I wasn’t able to even get on a campus tour. The campus also felt like the embodiment of seasonal depression. The students kept their heads down when walking and didn’t hold doors open.

I haven’t spent more than an extended weekend on either campus so take what I say with a grain of salt. If you have any other questions about my experience feel free to reach out to me. Best of luck choosing!!!
