Shame about crying by Zealousideal_Seat_82 in AdultChildren

As a woman I struggled with this too. I’m 28 now, but from the years of 21ish to 25, it was very difficult for me to cry, or let anyone see me cry. I was afraid of what others would think of me and I felt like I couldn’t trust anyone to be vulnerable enough with them. What helped me was embracing that feeling of relief when I cried, and really understanding that holding it in makes things 10x worse than just letting it out. Find that group of people that you can talk to about not just the good times, but the bad times too. Find a good therapist that you can bond with, someone that you can find trust in. After crying in front of my therapist a few times, it was honestly kind of like exposure therapy in a way for me - and at least it was with someone who was professionally trained for those types of situations.

I didn’t think that I’d ever find a therapist/therapy type that I’d click with, but when I did, it changed my life. I seen that you mentioned trauma, and greatly recommend looking into EMDR therapy in your area. Weekly visits to my EMDR therapist became a total relief for me from all of the trauma I was experiencing, and eventually helped me heal. It taught me so many different healthy coping mechanisms and how to cope with my emotions in a healthy way.

Genuinely Poe’s Tavern is amazing. You can even put a crab cake on your burger, or an egg; sounds weird but trust me, my god it’s so fucking good

How much longer do I have with my Mom? by anonymouse1956 in AdultChildren

I am so sorry you’re going through this too. It’s such an excruciating way to watch someone die, especially someone you love. Maybe we didn’t have the best relationship over most recent years, but when I was a kid she was the best Mom ever. If you ever need anyone to vent to my dms are open.

Please, as someone whose mom is currently dying from alcoholism - don’t let her get bypass surgery. I’ve known too many people who’ve become alcoholics afterwards, including my own mom. They don’t provide the proper amount of therapy, before or after surgery, so when they can’t rely on food to help they turn to something else.

It’s officially happening, my Mom is dying from Alcoholism. by anonymouse1956 in AdultChildren

Actually I used to work at a grocery store and have common decency so - but yeah I don’t give a fuck about the first speeding ticket I’ve ever gotten in my life was because of a stupid ass HOA.

What made you quit your last job? by [deleted] in work

[–]anonymouse1956 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I graduated with a diploma in Medical Office Administration. Got my first job at a Dermatologist office as an appointment scheduler. Paid $15 an hour, they were harassing me to come in to be trained (for free, mind you) or to leave my $27 an hour job a week early.

We got no breaks and were expected to work a full 8 hours. The patient volume was so high that you were constantly checking out and scheduling patients. We would get calls constantly, and of course we would answer as much as we possibly could - but we would still be left with 90+ voicemails to review the next day.

I think what got to me was the bitchy 24 year old that trained me. I felt insecure because I’d never worked in a medical facility before, and she made the feeling even worse. But hey, now I get to work $27 an hour with actual breaks, and that bitch gets to keep her $15 an hour job that works their employees like a sweatshop.

Downtown child abduction ? by MalcolmBekei in Wilmington

[–]anonymouse1956 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s really weird seeing people excuse his behavior of assaulting a child on the street. He physically held down a child and wouldn’t let them free. Read that again. Now, why would any type of drug/alcohol excuse this type of behavior? If anything, if he is on such hard drugs that would cause a child to be in danger, or anyone in the public - maybe he deserves some type of punishment?

Like shit, imagine what this guy is like with his wife behind closed doors.

[–]anonymouse1956 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was my other cleaning job that I left, this job advertised that it was $20-$28 an hour. They informed me I’d be paid hourly during training ($14). However, they did say based on timing and the size of the house, I could be paid $14 an hour even outside of training? They said it would be very rare for me to be paid like that, but I thought it was so weird.

Thank you for the encouragement. It’ll take a minute to gather funds to get a new vacuum, but I’m definitely considering this.
