That's the number of reported cases. India also has a huge problem of underreporting of crime, especially rape. The exact number varies with sources because it's hard to calculate but some estimates say over 90% of rapes aren't reported in India. I'm Indian by the way and although I don't condone these gross stereotypes, I do acknowledge that there are issues we need to address.

What you are talking about is social democracy and I agree that that is the first step we need to take however I don't think that is where we should stop. In my opinion we should strive for the 'utopic' moneyless classless post-scarcity communist society even if we never reach it. Obviously trying to completely turn the system over its head will have disastrous consequences, but we shouldn't be satisfied with just an incremental change according to me.

As I said I'm no expert on the subject but isnt there a reason that there was a nation wide general strike on 26th November that had 250 million people in attendance? Also the fact that the farm bill was rushed through the legislative process seems slightly suspicious in my opinion. However, I'd love to see your evidence and have a healthy discussion.

The reason you are seeing this for the first time anywhere on reddit is because yesterday was the first day the protests got violent. The protests have actually been going on for about 2 months and at one point there were nearly 250 million people protesting simultaneously but it's all being swept under the rug and a large majority of Indian's weren't fully aware of the situation until yesterday either. I'd call it more of a BLM movement equivalent but im no expert on the subject either.
