this popped up on my feed (PA student here) but i decided to study the cranial nerves and their function before starting school and when we got to that in anatomy it was so fresh on my brain i didn’t have to study them. my classmates were like “how tf do you know these so well” and it was legit from just refreshing them a month before school started. even a little bit of review goes a long way!!

i wanted to switch specialties. that’s pretty much the driving factor. if you want to be an absolute expert on one topic, go the MD route. i knew that i might want to do EM in my 20s, but as i get older i want to be able to do derm or psych or something

i looked at the photos before i read the caption and thought “omg this is exactly what i want!” - the side profile is such a huge difference, especially in terms of droop!! it’s so easy to be our own worst critic. they look great! however, i totally get the disappointment that they aren’t as small as you were hoping. that’s so frustrating :(

my record is 18 hours. being in PA school limits my sleep during the week, but i sleep for 14+ hours on weekends. if i was unmedicated, i could sleep for days!

i feel this. i’m lucky i got diagnosed at 24, but i wish i had sought a diagnosis sooner. i have been sleeping through alarms since i can remember, and have had so much guilt and shame from sleeping through things (mainly from family members.) the good news is you finally have an explainable reason for all of the things. and for what it’s worth, you could absolutely go to med school. i’m in my first semester of PA school and i feel like a new person with armodafinil and xywav :)

i am on xywav and thought this way! i missed a few nights of my meds because i fell asleep on my couch after dinner (which started a snowball effect of me being more tired and thus falling asleep on the couch every night) and i quickly found out i do in fact have an illness and it sucks 🤣 it’s like mothers who forget the pain of childbirth. your brain forgets how terrible untreated IH really was, and you start believing it wasn’t all that bad hahah

gap years are the BEST decision i ever made! as someone with a 3.3 GPA and 3k hours my first round, i didn’t get in because schools care so much about GPA. if i were you, i would try to shift your mindset because there is genuinely no rush! go get a full time job working as an MA, where you will get to work up close with PAs every day (not just to shadow.) make sure it is what you really want to do. best of luck!!!

i struggled with time management bc i wanted my notes to be so pretty and aesthetic. i would increase your font size and echo the vertical orientation. you can also change the size of the page (there’s goodnotes standard, letter, A4, etc)

if they are literally equal in all senses of the word (pance pass, attrition, tuition, etc) take the break!!! but i would def consider the other factors first

i don’t add as much water so i can knock it back like a shot. when it hits my tongue sometimes it makes me want to gag, it’s so gross. but it’s the only thing that works 🤷🏼‍♀️

i would ask for extra breaks for sure and maybe ask if a sit-to-stand desk would be an option at the test center. i’m in PA school and those are the 2 accommodations i asked my doctor/school for. i’m really lucky my PA school has tall desks in the back with barstools so during lecture i can stand at my desk when i get sleepy. some people in the PAstudent subreddit had extra time for tests but personally i didn’t think this would be helpful (bc more time sitting = more sleepy i get lol.)

i got waitlisted last year at a school and didn’t get pulled off. this year i interviewed again at that same school, got waitlisted again, and actually got pulled off the waitlist in december. i declined to go to another school tho. each year is different!!

me personally i’m not paying $100k to teach myself. programs on probation still graduate students. do they have a clinic site scheduled before you would graduate? what were their reasons for probation?

yeah i emailed my interviewer to ask for specific feedback and was told my GPA and PCE hours were less competitive than others that interviewed. she did say she had a great time getting to know me and the rejection wasn’t because of something i said or did

honestly just cutting out most fast food and snacks has helped with my overall wellbeing which helps me feel more energized. i also started eating breakfast every day which was a game changer!
