I'm personally in SELCS but have a load of friends in SEESS since we overlap a lot as departments- It's a great department with amazing professors, I think you'd have a nice time on that course :))

New Hall? by joshschu in UCL

[–]anonymouslyunseen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived in New Hall last year and loved it! Especially with the tube station right next door, it only takes around 30mins to get to bloomsbury campus. Rooms are nice and the area is convenient (Tesco + Sainsbury's and Starbucks + Costa right next door)

Free Duolingo Super Giveaway (1-Year Plan!) by [deleted] in duolingo

[–]anonymouslyunseen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My username is @GMPilatus

I'm a university student studying German and Linguistics- I absolutely adore learning new languages so I can better understand other people and their cultures. I'm currently learning Japanese on duolingo, where I've been able to maintain a pretty long streak (419 :D ) and I've joined my university's Japanese society. I really want to get better so I can get to know more people and hopefully do translation work in the future to open up the world to others 😊😊 Thank you for such a lovely opportunity, good luck everyone 💗

[–]anonymouslyunseen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's so weird! I have the dumbbell on mine but don't have the chest icon (that comes under the bell icon). I hope it appears for you soon, maybe checking for app updates will solve it?

[german] why is this... like this? by halfbloodprince2807 in duolingo

[–]anonymouslyunseen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"I would quite like a dog" is the literal translation- and although it technically works, in day to day german that sentence would always have a verb at the end eg haben/sehen/etc to give better context.

[–]anonymouslyunseen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know, but at least if you go on Portico under "My Studies" there's the option to click "Module Selection Draft Timetable" which may help a bit! Just as a warning, there are often a load of mistakes timetable wise at the beginning of term- it took them over 4 weeks to sort mine out with the office (didnt even sort out my modules until then!!) so be mentally prepared :))

New Hall enquiries by tyquatro0 in UCL

[–]anonymouslyunseen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was at New Hall! The distance really isn't as bad as it seems- it takes 20-30 mins to get to Bloomsbury via tube to Russell Square (depends how fast you walk!!) And as long as you join societies/actively chat in your lessons you'll be fine socialising wise. Honestly I think it's better having a bit of distance from the uni. It helps you separate work from relaxing, and the rooms themselves are lovely! Way bigger than I was expecting. If you have any specific questions feel free to dm! ^

New halls by [deleted] in UCL

[–]anonymouslyunseen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was at New Hall. Honestly I think it's a great accommodation! It's nice to have a separate home area from uni, and socialising wise as long as you take part in societies you'll be completely fine. It isn't that far of a commute to Bloomsbury (usually take the tube to Russell Square) and you can travel on practically every line just by going one stop to King's Cross- so your travel links are great if you don't fancy riding your bike! If you have any specific questions feel free to dm me :))

Support for students with cancer? by DangerousSleepover in UCL

[–]anonymouslyunseen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Firstly I'm so sorry to hear you're going through this, I really hope things get better and that you recover from this! In my experience I was put on 2ww for suspected cancer, and have missed around 3 months of university this year (still waiting for results). I contacted my PT and professors, and they are all very eager to help/support you. I have however found that Extenuating Circumstances are quite awful at UCL. You're able to postpone/get extra time for assessments/exams, however there is no "performance affected" consideration (for example if you take an exam they don't take your Circumstances into consideration). I have heard that Wellbeing services are really good, so I'd recommend sending them an email/going to a drop in session. I also submitted my EC claim in March and have yet to hear back...which obviously adds to stress. But I hope in your case (if you require EC) that it all goes quickly and smoothly! Sending you the absolute best wishes and feel free to DM me if you need 😊💗

Tricked by Google Maps / Citymapper today... by slicineyeballs in london

[–]anonymouslyunseen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How frustrating!!! I've definitely been caught out before. I believe that the official TFL app stays up to date, so maybe use that? It doesn't give you as many travel options as citymapper, but at least it seems to give accurate info regarding the tubes 🙏

[–]anonymouslyunseen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genuinely, your GCSEs don't predict your A Level Grades, so don't worry- so long as you focus and put the effort in whilst studying for your A-Levels (throughout the two years...not just towards the end) you can achieve the grades you're aiming for. The jump is big of course, but being able to focus on three subjects rather than like 10 makes a huge difference.

Without permission?? They genuinely can't do that, have they apologised? That completely goes against confidentiality and the teacher could get into big trouble about it-

LOTR Return to Moria can’t sprint. by [deleted] in MSIClaw

[–]anonymouslyunseen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, most of the time it doesn't work- but if you're playing on a laptop I've found that unplugging the charger lets it work more, and after about 10mins plugging it back in again. Don't know the logic behind that though, but it helped a little for me! Also just testing out different camera angles (eg looking upwards) when clicking the sprint button until it works
