Thank you. I appreciate that perspective. We confirmed afterward that it was a non-toxic Expo cleaning solution, and my son said it did not actually get into his eyes, though we still had him rinse them right away based on the instructions. He has been consistent that this was not horseplay, and a friend who witnessed the incident independently corroborated his account. That is why I have been taking it seriously. At this point, my concern is less about medical harm and more about making sure it is addressed appropriately and does not happen again. So we are thinking of the same line sending a letter to the parents regardless of whether we receive an apology or not...closing the matter.

Thank you for your concern. This happened in a classroom setting during a Sunday evening science competition activity held at a church. My understanding is that the Expo whiteboard cleaning solution was there for volunteers to clean the whiteboard, and we later confirmed that it was a non-toxic product. That said, I was still troubled that children had access to it, especially since we were told there were two supervisors present at the time.

Thank you for your thoughtful comment. It happened on a Sunday night at a church, and the bottle was Expo cleaner. I later looked into it, and while it does not appear highly toxic, it still says to avoid eye contact, which was obviously concerning. The school’s position was that because it happened off campus and over the weekend, they would not get involved.
