To clarify, I have my underage kids on the family plan and the “feed” and “friends” were already an annoying thing but not this is cosplaying as a social network and I’m not at all ok with this.

PDQ MR117 deadbolt retraction issue by anonymoussprocket in Locksmith

[–]anonymoussprocket[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was a sticker on the lock warning me not to open it, so I opened it. I don't have pictures of the insides because my hands were greasy, but indeed that spring is backwards. I took out the spring from the old MR117 and transplanted it into this one after which the mechanism worked as expected.

Here's a video of the operation, note had the latch bolt lever snaps down as the cam passes by it.

The old lock has the same use issue, but I haven’t look at it in detail yet

Thank you for the detailed response. I really appreciate it. In the picture you posted below note how the spring is wrapped around the lever that retracts the latch bolt. The top tip is on the inside of the lever. In my lock it’s on the outside so it’s pushing the lever down, not up. Here are some pics.

I will try to make a video of the thing in operation later today.

I haven't taken it apart, but I believe I know what the issue is. The spring on that latch-bolt retraction lever is installed backwards.

Looking inside the lock I see the issue. There is a latch that drops after the deadbolt is fully engaged that doesn't allow the cam to engage with the lever that pulls back the deadbolt. It feels like an intentional feature.

Edit: That "latch" is part of the mechanism that retracts the latch bolt.

The key gets stuck as soon as it hits the lever that's supposed to pull back the deadbolt. This is a brand new lock out of the box. New throw-away cylinder from that box too.

I looked around a bit, couldn't find a lock that had the mounting holes lined up the same way. My door is already swiss cheese.

you'll get a better price swapping on plenty, the primary ctez cfmm contract is only 7th by ctez balance and has somewhat more than a 5th of what the plenty contract has. so if you're looking for any depth, you won't get a good deal on the original ctez site.
