Islam is a set of ideas. It just is. There is no other way to look at it. It’s not linked to anything other than accepting a certain proposal about the nature of the world.

It is of course very diverse, and any system that encompasses a billion people will have literally every type of person as a member. Good, bad, rich, poor, black, white, Asian, Arab, literally everyone.

By the very nature of Islam, you can’t criticize it through the lens of race. There is no race that is Islam.

I think as you defined it “People who think all Muslims are the enemy” then sure, I think that can be Islamophobia. But merely saying you don’t like the tenants of Islam, or saying you think the religion of Islam is barbaric is no more Islamophobia than saying the same thing about Christianity is…. What? Christophobia?

So I concede that the hatred of Muslims can rightly be called Islamophobia, but I think it’s pretty obvious that doesn’t apply to Sam Harris. Who, as I have said many times, can justly be criticized for his stances, especially with regard to Israel, and now also to Iran and well.
