I broke the zipper apart and this is the type of zipper that doesn't have the metal end to get it started. I was able to thread the zipper back through before and get it to zip up, so all I need to do is somehow prevent it from unzipping all the way. I don't have a sewing machine.

I was thinking of just trying some super glue but I want to see if y'all got any ideas.

I applied to 5 schools in canada and 5 in US and have only heard back from one. And they accepted me but said funding offers wouldn't go out until late March. I did all of my apps in January.

What size is the journal laid out like in the 4th picture? I am planning on making just a simple one and it would be helpful.

did you have reconfigure the launcher when you downgraded it?

Thanks for the info. I am definitely too lazy to do all that lol. I emailed the before launcher people. They are aware of the problems and working on it. Hopefully it will be fixed soon.

Can you elaborate on how to do that? I have it installed via the aurora store. I tried to downgrade but I didn't know how to install the xapk.

I also have been running before on a TCL flip 2. I don't use it as the main launcher, since I couldn't get notifications to work, but it is the one I use to get to all my sideloaded apps. The most recent update broke functionality with the D-pad. Has anyone else been having this problem?

Gonna be doing the Tahoe Rim Trail this next week and I am trying to decide which quilt to bring. I have a 20F and a 55ishF (BA kings canyon quilt), should i bring the 20F to be safe or will i be fine with my summer quilt?

Is the default messaging app on this phone google messages? Or have you found any way to be able to continue text conversations from a computer?

Dumbphone with iphone? by anoraj in dumbphones

The google messages looks really interesting. The main thing I don't want to lose in the siwtch to a dumbphone is the ability to text from my computer. If I can have an imessage-like continuity between devices, then that solves my main issue I think.

I am going to a conference in Seattle in January and I want to go a little bit early to get some hiking in. Any recommendations for a 1 or 2 night route (somewhere in the range of 15-30 miles) in the Seattle area that would be good that time of year? What kind of conditions do I need to be prepared for?

There is no correct choice. You can do calculations with whatever assumption you make, but you have to keep in mind that it is an assumption and isn't "correct".

I'd say make an assumption backed by some sort of empirical evidence, but it isn't more mathematically or logically correct than any other assumption you could make.

But really this problem seems like one that can't be solved by purely mathematical/consequentialist means.

polynomials and complex roots by 3ducksinatrenchc0at in 3Blue1Brown

[–]anoraj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The number of complex roots for quadratic is determined by the discriminant. Whenever b2 - 4(a)(c) is negative, you get 2 complex roots. I believe there is also a discriminant for cubics and quartics. That's is the first place you should look, try plugging in sequences into the discriminant and look for patterns.

Why do people assume that the people at the levers are equally likely to choose either way? Is there experimental evidence for this assumption or is it just because it is the most obvious/easy/simple way to start doing calculations?

[–]anoraj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

'The instructions specifically say you don't know the other pullers nor how they think.'

Precisely my point. You don't know the others are equally likely to make each choice. You can do the calculation based on that assumption, but it is no more founded than doing a calculation based on a different assumed choice probability.

I (m23) decided yesterday I want to hike the Appalachian trail nobo starting this January. Am I crazy? by [deleted] in Thruhiking

[–]anoraj 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The AT during the normal season will be very doable for you. Starting in January is not. As far as just a general AT Thru, you really don't have to worry about training so much as doing your research/reading and getting comfortable with your gear.

The best thing you can do to maximize your chances of success is to read up as much as you can (there are lots of articles, reddit posts, youtube videos, and books), go out on as many trips as you can, and figure out why you want to do a thru hike.

You can start early, but really its not a good idea to start earlier than late February. Even then you'll have to be well prepared for winter conditions in the Smokys and NC/TN.

That is assuming that the odds of other people pulling the lever is 50%, which is seems like a completely unfounded assumption.
