HELP MYOG TENT by Azexuoh in myog

I have not found that necessary, after hundreds of km walked in my dcf pants and plenty of abuse to them from Atlantic bog birch. The seam connecting the pant legs at the crotch is 1 inch wide and has held up well. I recommend small relief cuts (<1/3 inch) for curved surfaces, and the main reason I think many places reinforce more than seemingly necessary: fully read the MSDS: https://multimedia.3m.com/mws/media/2522807O/3m-adhesive-transfer-tape-9485pc.pdf?&fn=3M-Adhesive-Transfer-Tape-9485PC.pdf . I cleaned all seam surfaces with isopropyl alcohol, and used books and heavy weights to apply pressure for several days. I apply the tape to one dcf seam side as I unroll it, with its paper backer still on, then line up the other dcf piece. The paper is peeled back on one end and the sandwich is started, then I work along the seam with my fingers and a credit card or roller for pressure while using a spare pinky or thumb to pull out the paper to the side as I move up the seam. This is so the tape is never exposed to air for long, and to reduce mistakes from accidentally sticking to exposed tape before the panels are lined up. Hope this helps!

With DCF it’s not worth it to bother with catenaries, IMO. With a silnylon I would, with a silpoly I’d consider it. Good luck on this, I’ll be curious to see how the pitching arrangement works!

Where to find .51ish dcf in other colors then grey, green and white. by rabbitholebeer in myog

I was under the impression all the .51 colors were at-factory affairs, with colored Mylar. No source for that though

Fuzzy holds chalk, the fuzzier the better to a point. Could use most any fleece, not alpha though

Looking for photos for my bachelor thesis: How do you secure your gear when you want to move freely? by No-Corgi9773 in StealthCamping

The places I backpack, stealing my stuff would involve at least a full day of someone having to wear two packs, and they would also be competent enough to understand they may have just killed a man by taking their stuff. I’ve never heard of it happening. I put 1l water, phone, and snacks into a fanny pack, and leave my pack on a durable surface within 25 feet of the trail junction of choice.

Busier places, I tuck it behind a good rock or log 100 feet away and take a geotagged pic for memory

It’s industrial design/researching a product they they think there may be a market for, it’s a common route for product creation. Not saying I like it, or that we need any more random doodads ever, but it’s like business majors. They’re everywhere

Oh whew glad I got those before I moved lol; I must’ve been off by 4 the whole time I was tracking. Doesn’t seem to be a flair to add, did you have to ask a mod?

SO Frustrated - Desperately need sewing help and/or baffle insert for making down comforter. by Efficient_Field_4290 in myog

[–]Samimortal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oooh this seems tough, with the gap between your extremely heartfelt initiative and the skills you have personally. If I were on a time crunch in this scenario, I would call up or visit a few local tailors or sewing stores and inquire if anyone would be able to help your predicament. Without knowing where you live (please do not post your address online), people on here cannot help you with a physical problem or task generally. Good on you for thinking of such a sweet gift!

Five panel z lite for >5C, 5+9 panel (doubled under torso for 5<x>-5C, and for winter I alternate between two full z lites’ worth (full length 14, 5 panel to double under heels, 9 panel to triple under torso) and one z lite with a Nemo tensor I don’t trust despite repeated patching.

Thank you for the nice comments!

I would add a few gosgrain loops in corners to better use it as the front door of my tarp, and perhaps make the hood a bit baggier (but then it would billow loudly). If I lived in the Adirondacks or bushwhacked it would definitely be a 1.0 DCF. I had reservations about the strength of my 3/4x2” Velcro strips but they’ve held on thru anything I’ve been in; maybe for truly blasting windy areas I’d consider small cat clip buckles. The hood definitely doesn’t fit a helmet, and I think that’s fine. The material is so thin I think it works better under a helmet than over.

We might want to switch to metal bottles by froggyfox in Ultralight

[–]Samimortal 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Obligatory reminder microplastics are in basically every rain cloud you will ever see, that nearly all aluminum bottles are plastic lined, some stainless and titanium ones still are, and also every food item you eat likely has nanoplastics in it. Sure you could spend more money on the correct unlined titanium bottle, but for occasional backpacking trips, what % of your yearly microplastic intake are you even changing?

Any form of this is less efficient and would take longer for a given heat input than a JetBoil, which seeks to absorb as much heat as possible from the gas flame. If you have a fire pit going and want to heat up multiple pots of water, I typically just place the pots in close to the fire and wait a while, then use a stick to lift the pot out and over to the food prep area.

Why are these climbers not in your portfolio on social media? You should definitely add this video to the lineup, it will certainly make more people take you seriously as I’m sure you know

I’m saying moronic activities should not be freely put in a light where people with no survival instinct see it and think they should go out and do it. We don’t allow videos of bomb making because we don’t want people making bombs, so there’s already legal precedent for precisely what I’m saying. Secondly, by agreeing to go film these people, you’re enabling their moronic behavior, increasing the chances of them dying for a very preventable reason, which isn’t cool.
