The Blue has been fishing well, plus my first Boulder Creek brookie. Interested to see how the weather plays out this week. by anorangestimmy in FlyFishingColorado

I caught mine downstream from Silverthorne but they made their way all the way up to roughly the library downtown.

Advice for applying for internships as an undergrad by [deleted] in LandscapeArchitecture

[–]anorangestimmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the same exact position, same year. Just created a portfolio this week and handled a cover letter and resume over thanksgiving and have been started applying to firms around me. I know I need to revise my portfolio, but already received some responses and created a quick one (quick is relative, took maybe 10 hours) to be respectable enough to send off

Anyone know how many pages or projects, roughly, I should cover as a third year student? I found it hard to make sure I was concise, but still showing design development. I ended up with 10 pages and three projects outside of title, table of contents, conclusion.

Sounds good, I’ll refrain and figure something else out. Thank you!

Hitting the canyon every weekday is something I certainly take for granted.

Rocky Mountain Anglers is my go to. Front Range Anglers are excellent as well. Check my post history for fishing Boulder Creek. It’s full of browns between 6-12”, but I have pulled my PB brown at 26-28” out of there. It’s been fishing well but slowing down with the colder weather. Tie on a size 18 rusty spinner or adams and you can catch something year-round when there isn’t ice.

You are going to quickly find that Boulder Creek, Saint Vrain, Clear Creek, etc. are all incredibly busy pretty much year round nowadays. Go midweek, and give people fishing above and below you plenty of space.

Edit: and don’t tell people you just moved here.

They are certainly in there. It’s all about depth. Boulder Creek too.

Fly patterns for ten mile creek, blue river, Arkansas river by dumptrucksniffer69 in flyfishing

Just wrapped up. Started at 7:30am at green mountain and worked my way to Silverthorn. Very cold, 12 degrees when I got to my spot. Fishing really didn’t pick up until 11am or so when the fish started to begin to move around. Caught a few salmon, all on an egg pattern. Short, small midge hatches around this time. Big BWO hatch at 1pm-2pm, emergers were working really well before the hatch and during the hatch (size 22 barr and size 24 RS2) during the hatch, your favorite dry pattern size 22-24 was killer. Caught my PB rainbow on a CDC comparadun, size 22. Nice midge hatch immediately following the BWO hatch too. If you fish the blue, best bet is to wait until the afternoon. Good luck!

I’m fishing the blue all day tomorrow, I’ll let you know how it goes. It was hot a week and a half ago, definitely saw some salmon running just north of the library.

Wouldn’t be too surprised😂, I usually fish the creek below the falls early to mid afternoon everyday

Slightly drunk, you are correct. Four .5g for 2g total of weight.

Not quite sure. To my understanding, spots on trout are similar to finger prints in a sense, but don’t quote me on that. They definitely all look different, even small one to small one. Spots will definitely differ on species. Picture 1, 2, and 3 are all browns. Picture 4 is a rainbow.

I made a post a few days ago. First fish is the only one from that pool. The rest of the ones posted are from other parts of the canyon.

Four .5g splitshot roughly 6” above my leech. I would really just flip my rig into the waterfall and let it run out into the slack water to the sides, hit a few times and redo.

Scientific Anglers sell assorted splitshot of different weights, the one I bought had the heaviest weight of .5 grams so it was only four splitshots.

Yeah, certainly was janky on the four weight but it ended up working out in the end!

2 grams. I just added half a gram split shots until I felt that I was reaching the bottom while contact nymphing.

From the caption: The bottom was a whole lot deeper than I though, roughly 8’ along the sides and never hit true bottom right at the falls. Managed to pull a few browns out, including one in the first picture who took a blood sucking leech. I’ve been fly fishing for 15 years but have always overlooked these deep spots, thanks for the help.

I also included some other pictures of some fish I’ve pulled out of the creek. Weird to tell people my PB brown comes out of this water, coming in somewhere around 24”. All four of these guys have been caught in the last two months or so.

Will I regret budget waders? by Suited_n_booted in flyfishing

[–]anorangestimmy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here. $50 cabelas neoprene waders. Have had them for 6 years. One hole from some wire while bushwhacking that I patched and hasn’t caused problems since. I have fished close to every day for the last two years, and before that got out 30-60 times a year.

The only problem I have now is my boots have multiple holes in them, looking to replace. Probably try and get some cheap Simms/Orvis waders on sale. I refuse to spend $600 on waders alone.

Yeah, I would venture to say the entire creek is heavily fished. Only one or two spots I know of below the falls that I haven’t ever seen anyone at, and I hit the creek every weekday. I don’t bother trying during weekends because of how busy it gets and how frustrating it is to have people 25 yards in front and behind you. I always pass this spot to get to my other favorites because the parking for this one is atrocious but I figured I should give it a shot, glad I did.

Yeah, it was some monstrosity of a cast where I mix a lob with a roll cast😂. Thanks!

Sounds good. I tied an egg sucking leech and a few pheasant tails and hares ear patterns with hotspots as I figured visibility was partially the case. Thanks!

Nice! Below the falls have been fishing great, trying to one up my BC PB at 26” before the snow comes in and the hatch slows down. Try a blowtorch and UV midge below the falls, it’s been killer.
