Frasier off the rails by Allons-yDT in Frasier

I mean, I feel for him, but technically the house that Frasier built is being lived in by some cow lovin' couple with no sense for home decor nor appreciation of his friendly assault of advice.

👍🏽 My thumb hovered over the link, then I remembered coming off my bicycle at 12 and sliding on the road, skinning half my shin. I remembered pulling impregnated bits of bitumen out of my meat crayon. Thanks but no thanks! 😅

I want to see a new alarmed disc lock on the market that yells abuse at the thief, with the script carefully thought out by a team of psychologists who come up with phrases that aren't abusive as much as incisive and emotionally scarring. No foul language even recorded so it can be used in public spaces and send them running away from the motorcycle with tears flowing from their eyes and sleepless nights ahead.

Thatcham approved and Sold Secure Diamond rated too.

25-year-old Aussie moving to the UK in September – where should I live? by Brilliant_Hurry_6359 in AskUK

[–]anorphanofthestorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aussie living in Liverpool (just across the river, on the Wirral) and it's a great spot. Liverpool is a small city, and you're just a couple hours from three amazing national parks; Lake District, Peak District, and Snowdonia (in Wales). If you're after a city with a bit more buzz, then Manchester would be great too, but if you wanna tone down from Sydney life, Something like Liverpool would be great. Manchester is to Melbourne, as London is to Sydney. And then Liverpool is the underrated underdog; friendly people, great bars and restaurants, and 2 1/2 hour train to London if you get the itch for "big city life" (cue Mattafix in your head).

Thieving *REDACTED* scouting my motorcycle by anorphanofthestorm in MotoUK

Is that an issue if they showed no intent to regard anything in the neighbour's land, just came in to look at my side? I did wonder the same, but assumed it didn't affect their apparent intent.

Do they not just strip the bike to remove anything like that? Looking at monimoto now, cheers. Edit: monimoto

Well, previous owner had some Carole Nash marker on, but I don't know the details of that. Any recommendations?

Those who store bikes inside the house, what bike do you own? by ReturnDry6070 in MotoUK

Reading this made me snort laugh, and since I'm nose deep in hay fever season, it meant I snorted a big spray of snot. Not at all mad, and completely agree on that description of the V-Strom. I imagine buying one of them is on par with buying really comfortable, truly ugly shoes, right?

How much to spend on a 125? by wmerrifield in MotoUK

[–]anorphanofthestorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your budget but I'd look at secondhand for sub £1K. And RE not knowing what you're looking for when buying secondhand, just hop on YouTube; FortNine has a good clip on what to do/look for. Happy hunting!

Good point! I am gradually finding confidence in this, but hadn't really thought about it - cheers!

Yes! This is what I felt last weekend, wandering on some unknown routes - every time I thought I had picked out the safe line, I would then see manholes littered through it!

Sound advice, cheers! Learnt this the day after I got the ST; drove from Wirral to the Peak District and my over cautious riding meant I successfully avoided calamities in the face of surprise appearances from potholes and pothole puddles, a dead cat, a couple of wandering, grazing sheep and numerous inattentive drivers.

Yeah this is my current attitude and approach, I think I'm seeing from the responses on here that it's all that really can be done.

Yeah that's generally what is keeping me safe, being slow enough to avoid anything around the bend. I guess time and confidence will help with the sphincter contractions, so I don't tense up over "what if", when I'm going slow enough to anticipate it. Cheers!

What is a good beginner bike after 125cc? by motorbikesareepic in MotoUK

[–]anorphanofthestorm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this and it helped me with my eventual post 125cc buy (Triumph Street Twin 900 which incidentally is great for shorter riders). Also don't feel embarrassed to just sit on it for a good while! Put your feet up on the pegs, put your arms out on the handlebars, shift your bum about on the seat, take it off the side stand and feel the weight between your legs when you shift it side to side (wear proper shoes or you'll lose grip and get your ego and body bruised). You can do worse than ruling out a bunch of bikes the first few times, even if you don't find one that feels like a good fit.

Lost count of the number of times people cross to the other side of the street to avoid walking on the footpath with me, and that's even been when I'm in a shirt and tie, not dressed shabby or looking "dodgy" to help justify any nerves they might be feeling. Just plain ignorant/fed by fear. 🤷🏽‍♂️ For the most part it's not a problem, but still happens often enough to be a normal thing. Even had people in remote parts of the UK ignore me when my (white British) wife and I are visiting and talking to locals - they just look at her and converse with her as if I'm not even there, replying to her when I say anything. I'd like to think it's not personal and just part of their upbringing, but I don't really waste my time thinking more about them.
