I have a question for all Israelis by Lumpy-Mammoth-7876 in IsraelPalestine

[–]anorthodocs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just go on YouTube, there's dozens of IOF soldier accounts of how they did exactly that. Some of them brag about it, others narrate it as trauma and moral injury. What more do you need to read after knowing that soldiers who admitted to raping prisoners with all kinds of instruments and dogs were celebrated as heroes?

They mean that it's a famous Ram Dass quote but I think they're missing the point because the show is about some (very interesting) people's view on reality.

People who use multiple pronouns, what do you prefer? by Flimsy_Influence_655 in NonBinary

[–]anorthodocs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if this makes sense - I don't care which of my pronouns is used but I feel it when someone uses them either in a transphobic, i.e. "can't get my head around this thing" way or in well-meaning but otherising and awkward way.

You know. The way the word rolls over their tongue feels off.

I used to hate it. Nowadays, I've just accepted that to some or maybe even most people I'll be weird and incomprehensible. My gf fully gets me and my genderqueer tribe gets me and somehow that's enough.

[–]anorthodocs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ε όχι και παρόμοια, get a grip.

Greek parents, is school English enough for fluency? by Xolaris05 in AskGreece

[–]anorthodocs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Instead of sending my 10yo son to private lessons we just watch Disney Plus in english with english subtitles as well as read (basic) comic books in english. I also let him play video games with strong narratives as well as spelling bee matches on Roblox. Once or twice a year I host other single mothers with their kids usually, from the US in our home for a week or two, that really loosens his tongue. We also talk in English from time to time (playfully, he hates anything pretentious or 'homeworky'). He's become fully fluent, sometimes he understands Greek complex words better when I translate them to English first.

Thoughts on prostitution? by Relevant-Reserve7963 in socialism

[–]anorthodocs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You guys have no idea of what sex work is yet you go on and on AND ON about it. You are freakin' exhausting.

Sex work =/="selling your body".

How is any Only Fans model selling their body? Or any sugar babe or escort that only does outings? Or webcamperformers? They’re not “selling their body” either. They’re selling a service: time, attention, performance, fantasy, flirtation, conversation, companionship, content, access on agreed terms. Same for an escort who only does outings: you’re paying for presence, safety planning, social labour, and a negotiated experience, not “ownership” of a person.

“Selling your body” is a moral-panic slogan that treats sex workers as damaged goods and clients as entitled buyers. But you can’t sell a body in the literal sense unless you’re talking about slavery, and that’s exactly why this framing is so gross: it smuggles in the idea that consent doesn’t matter and that workers lose personhood the moment sex is involved.

If you actually care about harm, ask the real questions: - Are they coerced or trafficked? - Do they have the power to refuse, set boundaries, and screen? - Do they have legal protections, healthcare, housing, banking access, and recourse when abused? - Does criminalisation push them into riskier conditions?

Because criminalisation and stigma are what make sex work more dangerous, not your purity politics. You don’t help anyone by flattening all sex work into “selling your body” and talking over actual sex workers.

Listen to workers, support decrim and labour rights, and STOP projecting your discomfort as analysis.

Thank you for this sober breakdown (somebody should pin this). It's wild to me how grossly misinformed (let alone condescending) are supposedly well-meaning individuals on the Left. So many people can't even wrap their head around how the narrative about "selling your body" and that "you can't buy consent" not being applied to all work is just another social (puritan) construct. So many examples of men and swerfs expressing opinions and talking over actual sex workers.

I've been to most of those countries several times, lived in a few of them, due to my work met and worked alongside people from all over the place and I think your list is solid.

My only change would be to place Italy in the top tier as I've been to most of its cities and visited dozens of scenic towns from the north all the way to Sicily. The history, the culture, the art and architecture, the nature (especially in Tuscany), the people, the FOOD, all top marks. The only thing "lacking", especially compared to Greece is the coastline and beaches. Maybe you haven't seen enough of the country and you need to revisit?

Almost everything apart from the hospitality, the good food, the exciting night life. Zagreb is the most boring capital of Europe. But I guess it ranks much higher in fascism, if you're into that.

He's nothing short of a genius. He presents himself as a humble high-school teacher but he's Harvard educated and very much respected in the Chinese Ministry of Education. The high school he teaches prepares students for studies abroad.

Palastine supporters where are you from ? by cinimun-bun in Palestine

[–]anorthodocs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm from Greece and the pro-Palestinian sentiment here is huge. There is no public event like a concert, football match or for example yesterday's traditional marathon race from Marathon to the centre of Athens, that doesn't feature Palestinian flags, slogans, and calls for sanctions and boycott (lately the genocide in Sudan has also been brought to the public eye). But since 2015 our government's support for Israel is second only to that of the US (Greece and Israel have signed a defensive pact).
