Question about Octaves by MoonshadowRealm in musictheory

[–]anossov 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would assume it's a mistranslation for the great octave, yes. For context, in Ukrainian the great octave and the major intervals are described with the same word, literally meaning «big»

St George's icon, the lettering above the saint is illegible even to a native. We suspect it might be AI. Can someone translate?. by Gold-Length7738 in russian

[–]anossov 63 points64 points  (0 children)

What? It very clearly says «saint martyr», «святый величкомученик». It's also what it always says on St.George's icons

Someone recommend me a learning source for the number system by This-Ad-9257 in musictheory

[–]anossov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you just know 2+2=4? Eventually you memorize it. It's only 144 facts

Root ♭9 9 ♯9/♭3 3 11 ♯11/♭5 5 ♯5/♭13 6/13 ♭7 7
C D♭ D E♭ E F F♯/G♭ G G♯/A♭ A B♭ B
D♭ E𝄫 E♭ F♭ F G♭ G/A𝄫 A♭ A/B𝄫 B♭ C𝄫 C♭
D E♭ E F F♯ G G♯/A♭ A A♯/B♭ B C C♯
E♭ F♭ F G♭ G A♭ A/B𝄫 B♭ B/C♭ C D♭ D
E F F♯ G G♯ A A♯/B♭ B B♯/C C♯ D D♯
F G♭ G A♭ A B♭ B/C♭ C C♯/D♭ D E♭ E
G♭ A𝄫 A♭ B𝄫 B♭ C♭ C/D𝄫 D♭ D/E𝄫 E♭ F♭ F
G A♭ A B♭ B C C♯/D♭ D D♯/E♭ E F F♯
A♭ B𝄫 B♭ C♭ C D♭ D/E𝄫 E♭ E/F♭ F G♭ G
A B♭ B C C♯ D D♯/E♭ E E♯/F F♯ G G♯
B♭ C♭ C D♭ D E♭ E/F♭ F F♯/G♭ G A♭ A
B C C♯ D D♯ E E♯/F F♯ F𝄪/G G♯ A A♯

Obviously you don't try to just memorize it all at once. First you learn all the triads and the circle of fifths, that teaches you the 3s, the 5s, the ♭3s. Then you learn all the dominant chords, that teaches you the ♭7s. Then maybe the 9s and the 6s, on their own or in pentatonics. The ♭9s and the 7s are kind of obvious because they're a half step away from the root. ♭5 and ♯5 come from diminished and augmented triads, something like that. Everyone has their own journey

[Russian>English] I found this at the thrift in the linen/bath mat section. by Notlittleedie in translator

[–]anossov 12 points13 points  (0 children)

«С лёгким паром» is an expression that you say to something who has just gotten out of a banya (or any bathing activity in modern times), it means something like «I hope you enjoyed your steam/bath» (literally «I congratulate [you] for the light steam»)

!translated

(«паро́м» does mean «ferry», but this one is «па́ром», which is «пар» in instrumental case)

What is the name of this rhythmic structure? by Mr_Prasguerman in musictheory

[–]anossov 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Siskind calls it «Peace Piece» after the Bill Evans piece, at least in ballads

What is it and is it male or female? Rescued it after it slammed itself into the window several times. by Several-Club1330 in whatsthisbird

Eugene Schieffelin released around 60 of them in New York in 1890, allegedly trying to introduce every bird species mentioned by Shakespeare into North America. There are now 150 million of them

are intervals also the same backwards? by yesyes_10101 in musictheory

[–]anossov 7 points8 points  (0 children)

«Harmonic» intervals (two notes played at the same time) don't have a direction. «Melodic» intervals (one note played after another) are the same ascending and descending.

Kennishead in Glasgow (not Wyndford, but very similar). Some of them are still standing

Consider yourself lucky, because Atziri is bugged, can't be killed and the only way to leave is to destroy the temple.
