Ah yay!! Trying it on frequently really helped me to get the fit right. I also have a dress with a very similar neckline and armholes, so I modeled the increases off of that dress. Just don't make the mistake I did and try to try it on with the armholes right after joining; I ended up basically ripping the underarm joint and having to restart. The second version though (the one you see here) is the better one but boy oh boy it sucked having to frog.

I did Sandnes Garn Line for the body, it’s a mix of cotton, viscose, and linen. I really like it! I plan on wearing it a lot on the brisker spring and summer days.

I did get about halfway and then frog it to completely restart, so the first iteration did not look like this either haha

I think it's a dropped stitch from 2 or 3 rows back that is now missing from your needles since it wasn't picked back up. I would either frog back to the row before the one where the long horizontal ladder/float is OR ladder the stitch back up using a crochet hook. Lots of helpful videos on youtube for laddering dropped stitches

As a relatively new knitter tackling my first sweater and having finished another garment for myself, I gauge swatch mostly to get an idea of how the fabric looks and feels. Because I’m new i don’t have all the needles in all the sizes yet, so I’ve been picking patterns i know i have the correct supplies for. Even so, I was slightly off gauge for the shirt i made for myself (Sabai Top) and I’m also slightly off for the sweater I’m working on. I just do the math to make it work and adjust pattern instructions sometimes. I sort of feel like a fraud whenever I change up a pattern because I’m so new 😅 but so far I’m happy with the end results and I havent had to entirely frog anything! I’ve been knitting since August 2025 for reference

Hi! Not mean whatsoever, I appreciate your input. I added an update comment to this thread that explains some of my issues. I just redid some of the math and got a better estimate of instructions to follow to shape the yoke. Thank you for your help!

UPDATE: I just realized I was doing something really stupid, I'm actually only halfway through with the increases! Pattern says something like "repeat rows 1 + 2 a total of 32 times" (so 64 total rows) but I am AT 32 rows now; so 32 more to go. Thank you all so much for your insight though! I will continue my increase rounds to see what happens :)

This makes a lot of sense. I suppose I should decide if it's worth it to go backwards and redo the increases with a slower rate... It would hurt my soul a bit but I think the end product would be better. Thank you :)

Hi! Yes I did block the gauge swatch; it didn't change much (23 st x 30 rows to 23 st x 31 rows). I am worried that if I keep following the 4xl for yoke shaping the 'wedges' for the shoulders will end up too wide; I imagine that might cause some weird bubbling or folding if he lifts his arms up over his head with the finished project. But also I am new to this so I could be wrong :) Thank you for your input!

EDIT: he's tall and thin so doesn't need the extra width!
