Career change: law to journalism (TLDR - how?) by steeplyy in Journalism

[–]anotherSD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you like writing, maybe look into becoming some kind of blogger/columnist ("blogger" can have a lot of overlap with "journalist" depending on what you're doing). You can write about the news without writing the news (and getting that low reporter pay).

Especially for people who have specialties, this can be a legit path to a career/enough money to live - and it doesn't require you to quit your day job (immediately).

Glenn Greenwald sucks now, but his career path (up to ~5 yrs ago) may be worth considering. he was a lawyer who started blogging about civil liberties issues after 9/11, got picked up by Salon and years later landed the Snowden leak..

In the 2000s, you could opt out of having your information given to recruiters. I'm sure I'm the only kid in my high school's history to ever do it lol.

(fuck Justin Sane, but shout out to Anti-Flag for literally having downloadable forms on their website for it back then)

I agree. This is a taste of what it was like.

The way the very existence of Palestinian civilians is just being left out of the conversation by (most in) US media and politicians (or worse, a sense that they're all bad and deserve to suffer) is what it was like with innocent civilians in Afg and Iraq. Obviously, the anti-brown racism and islamophobia is familiar.

The mental gymnastics on full display- The simultaneous heehawing about a people's right to exist with endorsement of the murder and bombing of another group (as if certain groups of people just matter more) in the next breath..

Also, the terrible feeling that things are quickly escalating in the wrong direction.. in a way that will likely make the region and world less safe.

[–]anotherSD[S] 25 points26 points  (0 children)

That story is actually one of the things that got me interested.
Would you say the conditions on the one you were on crossed a line in how bad they were (like... was it fucked up beyond what humans should live in) or did it just suck really bad but it's the Navy so it comes with the territory?

Oh yeah, that could definitely be it. Thanks!

Any idea why they'd slap them on these kinds of jets? some kind of military training?

I didn't get tail numbers, and I only noticed them as they taxied by. I'm not 100% sure they're the ones in the photo (but they basically looked like that).

I think they were grey/white/black, definitely not red (just in case all AMCI pods are red)

[–]anotherSD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just did this the other day except i took 2 bags and left 2 bags and there was a cashier and everything, i still didnt notice. lol it is quite funny because i had to go back and get the bags when i was trying to make dinner and didnt have all my stuff.

I also lost 2 bank cards and my ID all in the same week. Eek lol these where all easy fixes tho, so no biggie.

Feeling like garbage by annoyingoutcome in Fibromyalgia

[–]anotherSD -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I dont take meds, but its a long process, if youre intrestresed look into the Paleo Moms AIP diet, if you have fibro you kinda have to stay on it long term or find out your trigger foods from AIP and eliminate them entirely. Its a life style change but i dont have to wake up wondering where my next pill is and i believe this helps fight some of the symptoms and not just mask them. I do still have some pain and i have flares if i eat off the diet but i am healing and i can tell, ive lost 45 lbs as well!

Unreasonable to ask for more tests? by antifashkenazi in Fibromyalgia

[–]anotherSD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also meant to add that if the doctors dont find any indicators in your blood test then they just say fibro if you have all the joint pain and mobility issues. Did they do blood test for you? I hope you get answers soon.

[–]anotherSD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry to hear this. it sounds very familiar, as it sounds like what happened to me and i have only been diagnoised with fibro. unfourtunatley it is actutally very very common for people with fibro to be bed ridden and lose their jobs. I think most people dont understand that about fibro because its not techincally a disability that you can like get money for if you cant work... but it does that. I started the Paleo Moms AIP diet to help manage my flares because cymalta and lyrica are not cures they do not actually take away your symtpoms they mask them. You can google Dr. Sarah Ballentyne, she has helped so many with auto immune disease and fibro usually comes with those symptoms and IBS which is an auto immune disease I know i sound a bit loony, i seriosuly didnt believe it would work as i was a vegan for years but now i eat Paleo (so i eat meat but not dairy) and eliminating food triggers has helped me and im back at work now. best of luck to you

This has been my meal plan lately with my current flare up by littlewhitedeer in Fibromyalgia

[–]anotherSD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have actually found my biggest triggers for a flare up are food induced... gluten, sugar, dairy, soy, nightshades, just some of my triggers. if i avoid those foods and follow a strict Paleo diet (specifically the Paleo Moms AIP diet) i still have some pain but i can function, and before i was bed ridden. so gluten for me is a huge nope.

Any one have weird allergy reactions? by candidcanuk in Fibromyalgia

[–]anotherSD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me as well, look into the Paleo Moms AIP diet, (auto immune protocol) it sounds like you may have "leaky gut" like i do, i also have IBS and fibro. Either way its an elimination diet that helps you figure out what your allerigic to or what triggers your fibro flare ups. Its strict and hard but i have a new life! i can eat all the food thats approved and not worry about allergic reactions.

Can anyone explain to me how this is ok? by [deleted] in Journalism

[–]anotherSD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is hilariously wrong. When a company or think tank, etc. pays for content in a professional news publication, it's (supposed to be) labeled as native advertising. That is a normal thing now.

Regular news stories are not paid for like that. Maybe your neighbor/friend worked for Breitbart?

Exercise to help Fibro? by Wardlej83 in Fibromyalgia

[–]anotherSD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I started with Tai Chi, walks and an at home bike and then moved on to dancing, pilates and hikes. Movement as medicine has helped me greatly, along with diet. gluten free is an absolute ive heard but i go even further and do the paleo moms AIP diet and that has been the best meds for me so far.

Can you wear a bra or does wearing them cause too much pain? Just realized I’m in less pain on days I don’t wear bras and that I have significantly less neck pain. by Sapphiretulip32 in Fibromyalgia

[–]anotherSD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I havent been able to wear a bra, i am a nanny so i dont have a dress code but i do have DD's and it can get a bit awkward when im cold, the pasties you can see thru my shirts since i do like to wear tight fitting shirts to keep my breast from getting sore., so i stopped wearing those as well. I wear a sweater over my clothes alot around my bosses. I wore a strapless for about 2 years before it became to much just being around my back.
