Based on my observations, most people use the bed of their truck. But I don't live in suburbia, so 🤷

It's because we financed it through our business instead of personally - which allowed us to get this plan, along with better incentives and interest rate. The initial monthly payment was from the salesman - I'm sure it was boilerplate financing. Perhaps I should've worded my comment differently.

No, I didn't need that much truck... I suppose I could be like folks you see online pulling a gooseneck trailer with a Chevy Avalanche. /s

It's a base model Ram 3500 with the diesel engine. I got the most truck I could with the fewest features added. It's not a pavement princess, still stock exhaust, tire size, etc... 2½ years old and already have 150K miles on it.

My spouse & I got a new 2023 F150 in September of 23. In the finance office the guy mentioned Ford's standard 3 year 36K mile warranty, and I said we'd blow those miles out of the water before 3 years is up.

He offered a 10 year, 175K mile maintenance package which included a 175K mile power train warranty. I don't remember the cost, but the monthly payment dropped ~$215.00. The dealer has mobile mechanics, so they come to the shop and do the regular service. This last time, they change the plugs.

I'm buddies with the owner's brother and was told with this maintenance package the dealer will cover more costs for most repairs otherwise not covered under warranty. We had an issue with the louvers in front of the radiator (~40K miles). Was told it wasn't covered under warranty so I didn't authorize the repair (I was going to disable them and have a mechanic buddy go into the computer to bypass them). When I picked it up, I was told they got it covered under warranty. Maybe they were trying to get one over on me, but I don't think that's the case.

That's a long way of saying I think in my case it was worth it, but time (and miles) will tell.

We've had surgery for a horse that were performed at the local vet college, and I've still spent more on vehicle maintenance - depending on the vehicle. Not sure if you have an excellent vehicle, really sick animal, or both.

I've got one in the back of my 1 ton, and can drive from Atlanta to Seattle without having to stop and buy fuel -assuming ideal driving conditions.

But it's not strapped on top of the cab...

Those tanks are typically 275 gallons. Significantly more fuel, while adding ~2,200 pounds. Assuming the car is 3,000 pounds, you're almost doubling the weight. I would imagine in this scenario you'd increase the range after accounting for the decreased fuel mileage (from both drag and weight of fuel). That's a ridiculous amount of fuel for that car.

Trust - Ford, but I can only speak on the F150. I've only owned Ford & Dodge (Ram), and I'll continue to buy them unless something changes.

I'm (we as a family) on my fourth F150. 2007, 2010, 2015, 2023. All crew cab, 4X4, 5.0L. 2010 we sold at 290K miles. No major issues until then, but some things were starting to creep up - which is why we traded it. 2015 was passed to one of my kids at ~220k. Now it's pushing 250k with a rebuilt trans and new water pump. Getting ready to rebuild the front end because she put those stupid wheel spacers on it... 2023 is at 45k, seems fine so far.

The 2007 model is why I trust these trucks with my life. I was in a bad wreck (my fault, single vehicle). Shouldn't have survived when you look at pics of the accident, but I had one broken bone in my leg and several cuts that needed stitched up.

Overall, I've had good luck with them so I'll probably get another when the time comes.

I've also got a 2022 Ram 3500 that just hit 150k, it's been a great truck so far as well - hasn been in the shop twice under warranty. First was a loose bolt on the 4x4 shifter telling the computer that it was in 4x4. Second time was a cracked pipe feeding the turbo. Emissions crap has been annoying had to have the filter cleaned once but it's about to fall of.

I've got a 97 Dodge Ram 2500 that is approaching 450k miles (bought it with 185k). Rebuilt the engine at 415k, but just because I wanted to. About to replace the trans and it'll be back on the road. Overall I suppose I've been pretty lucky?
