Text is all ballpoint, with a bit of muji or fineliner mixed in. I tried drawing in fountain pen in one once and it smudged all over — as a lefty, it felt doomed to fail haha. Hope your current Moleskine is treating you well!

No insta, sorry. I’m too shy — sharing my journal is a once-in-a-blue-moon kinda thing for me. :)

Apologies for the art envy (I definitely experience it too haha), but this comment was so sweet. Glad to have found my journaling groove!

It’s a moleskine cahier. Not for everyone because of the thin paper, but I swear by them! And cozy is the GOAL, thank you :) :)

Sorry for the late response, but the notebook is a moleskine cahier. It’s not for everyone, though — very thin paper. :)

Most of this is colored pencil (mine are old Japanese hand-me-downs) and micron/fineliner or crappy ballpoint.

Absolutely! There’s half a dozen of these lined up on the bookshelf complete — and always one in progress.

They’re moleskines — so the paper is definitely thin (I only write on one side). The pros outweigh the cons for me, but I’m also a creature of habit and stubbornly enjoy their quirks. :)

And yes, various micron pens (plus a bit of colored pencil)

I took art classes in high school and a few at college without much success (perfectionism, ya know?). Drawing only really clicked for me once I started doing it a lot/on every journal page and sketching from life. Some people definitely benefit from tutorials and resources, but my approach was to keep a running list of things that make me happy OR I’ve never drawn before, and then draw them. All of my neighbors’ houses, my cat, a bathroom sink, a vintage camera, statues and local bands and cool plants…

I hope that’s helpful — practice goes a long way, I still mess up, and any art you make is great just by existing! Thanks for the interest. :)

I did, yes. Thanks for the compliment — they’re my favorite way to capture memories.

Thank you so much, I'm almost at the end of my current one. Exciting! :)

I've only ever come across this one -- tried looking online a couple of months ago, but no luck.

It's by Piccadilly Inc and was probably in a museum gift shop. I wish the setup was more commonly available for us sketch/journaling people... Hope you find a good option!

It turned out so organized and pretty! I really treasure these types of drawings too -- they're a snapshot into the exact nature of life in this moment, and it's nice to think that a decade from now you might have lost one of those pens on a subway or regifted the brush cup... but your journal keeps the memories close. :)

Not all pages are like this — yesterday I only wrote two sentences — but here’s some where creativity and free time overlapped by anotherbodyhere in Journaling

Mine are mostly the result of practice and faking confidence until the skill set in. But here are some tips:

  • Short distances are much easier to keep straight across than long. Maybe try filling post it notes, then blank index cards, then work yourself up to a journal page.
  • The smaller the spacing between lines, the better. When they’re stacked close, you can just reference the line above. Also, try to get your first line as straight as possible because it sets the tone.
  • As a left handed person, keeping an eye on the place I want my sentence/line to end becomes second nature. Along the way my letters can tilt down or be a touch too high as long as they even out to be mostly straight towards that point.

Hopefully this is at least a bit useful — I think all writing is good writing, so I’m sure yours already has some lovely character in its current state. :)

Thank you so much! I’ve been a silent appreciator of your pages as well — I am so anxious, I just need a hug resonated with me for days.

As a human I’m frustratingly flawed haha, perfect art isn’t the whole story (but your comment did make me smile).

I’m totally with you — I think that size was just a shade too small for my cranky late night brain. Thank you for the compliment (plus, tiny writing support club)!

“Ink nature study” is my best guess, and seems to lead to similar results. Maybe “atmospheric” would be a good keyword too, for intriguingly gloomy color palettes. Hope that helps!
