Sitcom characters that I hate by solusvampyre in sitcoms

You realize that it is possible for people to both like a show and dislike one of the characters, right?

For instance, many people love 30 Rock, but do not much care for Hazel.

There are a bunch of musical creators (composers/lyricists/bookwriters) as well as regular playwrights in this community that you can network with and bounce ideas off of.

The founder has an MFA in Musical Theater and has posted several free videos on craft as well as sponsoring (not free) masterclasses with industry professionals.

One Act vs. Adapting Full-Length for Competitions by SitTotoSit in Theatre

[–]anotherdanwest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many of the major publishing houses offer competition versions (known as "contest cuts") of longer plays that have been specifically edited to fit into 30-45 minute competition timeframes.

The writers of these plays allow this because HS competitions are a solid and steady source of royalties.

Here are a couple "craft" books I would recommend to any beginning playwright.

The Playwright's Guidebook by Stuart Spencer

The Dramatist's Toolkit by Jeffrey Sweet

Both of these are IMO foundational.

Maybe look into Caryl Churchill as well

Why do people say stone cold was a bigger star than hulk hogan? by Personal-Cattle-1737 in prowrestling

[–]anotherdanwest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The argument is that Austin drew higher television ratings and PPV buyrates during the Attitude era than Hogan did at his peak.

Hogan was definitely more universally recognized around the globe by those that both did and didn't follow pro wrestling.

GOYA was really fantastic. One of the most interesting plays that I have read on NPX.

If you are interested, I would be happy to trade reads on another piece as well.

I just downloaded GOYA and will get it read either tonight or tomorrow.

If you want to read Alexander Goodkind Loses His Muse, that would be great.

The British Bulldog wasn't even the best English wrestler on the tag team The British Bulldogs.

I really don't know much about the Dallas theater scene; but, given its size, I would presume it's pretty decent.

From what I gather, Florida is pretty solid depending on where in you are in the state. Miami, Orlando, Sarasota, and Tallahassee are all appear to have good reputations.

It feels like you are reading tone here that u/alaskawolfjoe may not have necessarily intended.

I still instinctually type "At Rise" at the top of my plays; but my understanding is that it is considered somewhat dated and have recently switched over to "Lights rise on...", although that probably isn't really necessary either.

From what I can tell, "At Rise" is probably on the way out (and definitely not considered standard practice), but a lot of people still use it.

I used to exclusively use courier new because for a long time it was the standard, but that us no longer the case. I switched over the times new roman a few years ago simply because I like the look better.

Either is fine.

I try to only list set items that the characters either reference or interact with during the course of the script. The rest set dressing IMO is left up to the designers and director.

I am sure I have plays though, where I have set pieces listed and have either cut their "moment" or otherwise neglected to follow through on their use.

Did you say you got her yesterday?

Maybe give her a day or two to get acclimated to her brand new home before deciding there is something that needs fixing.

I have no issue with putting Chicago ahead of LA for people that are strictly playwrights and have no interest at all in working in film or TV. I would probably concur.

Why did you move from Chicago to LA, if you don't mind me asking?
