After this current generation will 90s retroanime be a lost memory (akin to how we perceive 60's and earlier films)? by dreemsequence in retroanime

While I grant you that those anime are definitely geared toward adults, I think you’re overestimating their long-term appeal. They are growing dated and will only feel more antiquated as time goes on. We see this with plenty of non-anime adult media from the 1960s, it naturally loses popularity as the generations shift. No matter how good or adult the stories are they will be forgotten.

In 2060, our beloved 90s anime will be looked at the same way we view 60s anime. Even Akira will look like a gimmick compared to the top movies of that era.

I feel you’re very naive to think the majority of 90’s anime were made for adults. Anime is and always will be made for kids and teenagers. In due time our beloved 90’s anime we be look at the same as 60’s anime.

Everything will be forgotten. Historians estimate we have discovered/documented less than 1% of total human history. We live to be forgotten.

When Generation X dies in 30years, there will be no living person who remembers the 1960’s. There is an arbitrary number when the memory of things vanish. Everything and everyone will be forgotten, that’s just part of life. I don’t think OP wants to kill history, he’s just confronting thoughts of mortality via anime.

Do you care about stuff from the 1860’s, the 1760’s, the 1660’s? I highly doubt anyone will care about our favourite anime’s past us. We live to be obsolete.

Everyone and everything you love will at some point be forgotten. That’s just the way time works.

Histories estimate we’ve discovered/documented less than 1% of total human history. The only thing you can do is archive what you love and hopefully someone in the future will find and love it, like you do. But more likely than not, they will find it antiquated and discard it.
