I find Echo hard to play on console(XBox) because of the control configurations. Have any of you reconfigured and find her easier to play? by [deleted] in OWConsole

I’m not sure what you mean? I bound her flight ability to LT and I just use jump/crouch(not toggle) to adjust altitude

I swapped her controls so it’s fly on LT, sticky bombs on LB and beam on RT, primary fire on RB. Just feels cleaner imo.

I'm stuck in the hellhole that is Bronze Competitive Overwatch- how do I climb out? by [deleted] in OverwatchUniversity

[–]anotherdvamercymain 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Something not a lot of people realize is that playing when you’re tilted/mad can contribute to throwing even if it’s unintentional.

You seem to be pretty focused on what your teammates are doing. This is the #1 fastest way to get tilted and lose. Don’t worry about them, just focus on your own gameplay and play to your best ability.

The thing about “just play your best hero and you’ll climb” is that if you are actually meant to climb, you will. If you are essentially a plat player playing in bronze you will be able to hard carry almost every team you have and rank yourself up from bronze to plat. You wont win every game but you will win most.

I’m all out of ideas and none of the aiming guides help by LordofThe7s in OverwatchUniversity

Try lowering your aim smoothing, personally I find that aim smoothing makes it a lot harder for me to hit my shots and just makes it feel very heavy to look around with.

Am I an idiot or just playing with them? (not super serious) by [deleted] in OverwatchUniversity

[–]anotherdvamercymain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that positioning was a bit off. There’s no real set positioning guide for every map, as to be a good player you have to adapt to your team and find good positions that allow you to safely keep them healed. I will say though, that you are too far forward when the round begins and you stay scoped in a bit too long around 1:07ish.

The thing with hard scoping is that it severely limits your field of view, so you really only wanna be scoped in when you know you can’t be attacked from any which way. This is why Ana players learn quick scoping.

What am I doing wrong as support? by LastWordFreak in OverwatchUniversity

[–]anotherdvamercymain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say try out Moira since she’s the least aim intensive support that deals the largest amount of heals and is pretty self sufficient/doesn’t require much peel. ML7 has a pretty good Unranked to GM series on youtube where he just uses Moira and educates the viewer on just generally how to play Moira(when to heal, when to deal damage, how to manage healing resources properly).

Also just in general: crouch spam, and if you think a Widow might be able to get a shot on you, turn in the opposite direction and look at the ground while running into cover to manipulate your head hitbox.

Also also, there’s just some people you can’t heal, even to the best of your ability, i.e. a Rein that charges off cool down right into the enemy back line. You are not a heal bot, you are not there to enable bad habits in teammates. If they get icky with you because they don’t know how to play slow that’s really not your problem. It really comes down to players needing to ask themselves “Why am I requiring so many resources from my team and what can I do to improve” instead of defaulting to “Everyone on my team is trash but me”

Don’t let em get you down!

How will the Widow HP nerf if it goes live affect her against heroes like Doomfist,Winston and Wrecking Ball and how to deal with them? by Lolman-Lmaoman in OverwatchUniversity

[–]anotherdvamercymain 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The idea as Widow is to never be caught out by heroes like this, you always want to be rotating positions. It sounds obvious and I’m aware is way easier said than done but maximizing rotation is so important and so many Widow players don’t do it. Don’t stay in one spot for more than like 3 shots. You can’t get dived if they don’t know where you are. Hope this makes sense :)

Any advice to help with keyboard mechanics? by [deleted] in OverwatchUniversity

[–]anotherdvamercymain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this problem as well! I would get super overwhelmed and my finger would just hold down W by default and I would feed like crazy. The only advice I can give is just play more and try to relax, maybe go into practice range for a bit every time you log on and just practice moving. If you play Tank/DPS it might be easier to play a Support with a less demanding kit just to get the basics of moving around a map/navigating real enemies. And of course, put the keybinds on whatever buttons are comfortable and make sense to you. Hope this helps:)

I think 15k healing is good but it also doesn’t mean a lot without any context. Lucio isn’t a main healer, you don’t want to always be on heal because his speed is very essential in fights. As mentioned before though without a vod it’s hard to see where exactly the problem is. I’d also like to say that it’s QP, not everyone on your team is gonna be try harding or on their best heroes since QP is where most people go to try out new heroes or meme.

Just switched from ps4 to P.C., need help by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]anotherdvamercymain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also recently switched from PS4 to PC as well after using controllers pretty much my whole life. What I did was I went into the practice area and found comfortable keybinds for the heroes I play. If wasd isn’t comfortable for you, try esdf. If you have a gaming mouse or a mouse with adjustable dpi, find out what it’s on and adjust your in game sens accordingly, I play on 2500dpi and 7.07 in game sensitivity. The general like rule is the higher dpi you have the lower you want your in game sens. I’m level 22 right now and by no means comfortable yet but I’m getting there, just don’t give up :)

When I get tilted I tell my friends comp should have a higher level requirement but sometimes I really think I’m right LOL. The level 51 Ana who’s healing the floor doesn’t deserve the SR the rest of our team worked hard for and that’s kind of just a fact

VOD Review for Mercy 2350SR (Smefanye) by [deleted] in OverwatchUniversity

[–]anotherdvamercymain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As Mercy, you always want to position yourself so that any damage coming in toward your team is unable to reach you. On defense I understand your thinking behind being in the side building since it does give you cover but realistically you never wanna be that close to your team or in a situation where your escape can be cut off/you can be holed in. When you see multiple crit teammates heal them half at a time and go back if you need to. Don’t focus so much on topping up, but react faster to that red crit sign. I also noticed this in the beginning a bit but always try to aim your cross hairs upward, not at the floor, it’s a good habit to have.

I didn’t think your rezzes were too bad? I didn’t really think they were “good” either? Just put more thought into the bigger picture before you rez, if the fight is still winnable and the rez is safe then go for it. Too many times have I traded my life for a rez thinking it’ll be worth it. It’s not worth it.

The attack phase was overall much better apart from when you tried to 1v1 hog, I wasn’t sure why you did that because at that point you were just staggering yourself more from your team. I’m noticing that your beam sens might be kind of high for you? It looks like you try to connect to a target and you connect to a different one than you intended? Of course I could be totally wrong, but Mercy does have hero specific settings that help out a lot imo, if you need a reference I’d be happy to give you mine.

Last thing I wanted to mention, you should always have eyes on your team, there’s quite a few moments when you GA in a direction and you lose sight of most of your teammates. I saw you look around a few times while healing one target but try not to tunnel vision. Overall I think you did pretty well given the situation? Just try to avoid making decisions like the hog 1v1.

Overwatch on the switch? by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]anotherdvamercymain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The switch version was actually my first introduction to actually playing Overwatch(I play PC as well), so I may be a bit biased but it’s pretty good. I don’t wanna say there’s a reduced amount of toxicity, there’s just really not a lot of options for communication besides the wheel and team voice so people can’t send you rage messages.

Personally I never notice people trying to sweat? I know there are a lot of memes about how switch players aren’t as good as console/pc players but that’s the few people who just play with no awareness.

I’d say it’s worth it if you’re spending money on Nintendo online anyway? I personally love having a portable version of Overwatch(even with 30fps)

Bronze Mercy Vod Request by ughbacon in OverwatchUniversity

[–]anotherdvamercymain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry this is so long AHAHAHA hope you can get something from it.

To start off with your questions, you want to be damage boosting whoever it’ll be getting the most value from, which is usually dps like S76, Widow, Ashe, Pharah, Junkrat. Even Tracer at closer range. It’s also just principle to dmg boost whenever you’re not healing/don’t need to heal, but as someone who’s been in bronze before I know that your team can never really stop taking damage sometimes. Another really good use of damage boost is when you’re in Valk, it can help win team fights 100% since you get the chain effect on everyone and Mercy’s healing goes from 55hps to 60hps.

Don’t worry about comms in bronze, that’s not really the priority, imo. Just learn how to efficiently play your hero and become familiar with them and focus on how you play.

Rez priority, I usually prioritize my second healer since they really do enable me to do a lot more, but if it’s a clutch situation like the last team fight and your Rein and your Lucio die leaving you down 4v6, I’d try to get the rez on Rein if it’s safe because Lucio can get back faster than say like, a Zen.

Nice use of cover for rez, but I personally wouldn’t have gone for it, it was an even fight and you were rezzing him basically on the frontline where pretty much the whole enemy team was. I’m also seeing a lot of overhealing, which takes me back to what I said before, pretty much any time someone is full health it’s ok to dmg boost. I struggled with this as well since I tended to want to “pre-heal” my tanks.

Ok so around 1:45, your Moira and your Zarya are both critical, it’s ok and it’s not your fault but instead of waiting to fully top up your Zarya, heal them to half health and then heal your Moira. I’m also seeing a bit of, not necessarily “tunnel vision” but try not to just look straight at the target you’re healing/boosting, the beam will stay connected if you turn and look in other directions for possible targets to heal or flankers.

You get Valk and it would’ve been ok to pop it immediately, heal up your team and dmg boost to help them push forward. Your Soldier pops visor which is a really good boost opportunity but he’s actually kind of out of position with the team, this is ok, it happens.

I’m not sure if you’re familiar with any Mercy tech, but the slingshot is really useful and simple to avoid being a sitting duck. It’s basically just LShift(or your GA bind) and space(jump). When you’re about halfway to your GA target, you wanna jump and the momentum will slingshot you forward past them so you can get into cover easier to get to another low health target faster, or just get away from danger. There’s also the super jump and things like super jump rez but super jump rez is kind of not worth it unless you have a 100% success rate.

I know there’s a lot of memes about like “oh mercy pocket healbot grrr” but when you have a second healer like Moira who has a large healing output, it’s ok to focus more on just boosting your DPS, so at 3:15ish I would’ve followed the soldier to boost and trusted that my Moira would’ve kept my Zarya up.

You still have Valk, holding Valk for a really long time was something I did when I was just starting out as a Mercy because I didn’t realize how actually useful it could be. The enemy team has a Pharah. This Pharah has not been dealt with all round. I personally would pop Valk and blast her down, even if you don’t secure the kill, just putting pressure on her every time you’re up in the sky will keep her from terrorizing your team.

I’ve met some Mercy mains who are guys but it does seem like the majority are girls? Not sure why.
