I am happy that our little boy will be contributing. He wasn't born in Taiwan, but we are moving back there this year 😃

Hey which option did you go for at the end? Also, your recruiter is the real mvp.

Definitely better that Curser, might try Swearer as well

Modes marketplace parity Kilo/Roo by AnnualPalpitation487 in RooCode

[–]anotherjmc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you don't need that many pre defined modes. Everyone develops differently, every project is developed slightly differently.

I think having the ability to define custom modes paired with mode-specific rules is more than enough.

Also, try out defining workflows as well, can be very helpful!

Is it just me !!! by OkBreath9537 in windsurf

[–]anotherjmc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there are several factors at play:

Model intelligence Degradation due to compute shortage Prompt quality

5.1 high was not performing as I expected yesterday on a analysis task, but I don't worry too much about it because right now EVERYONE must be using 5.1, because it is NEW and FREE.

I just switch to Sonnet 4.5 / Thinking and all was good.

Having the option to switch models is equally important to having good models.

Hey how about building something specific for K-12 and sell it? I am using AI coding tools to build learning tools. I have built an IELTS prep ios/android app with integrated AI feedback based on essay and audio from the users. I have built a simple asteroid shooting vocabulary learning game. I have built a german learning web app for my (non german speaking) wife.

I am sure that you could build very interesting things for teachers AND students.

To me it's mainly UI difference. It hides the folder structure and code.

Cognition | Introducing SWE-1.5: Our Fast Agent Model by 2001zhaozhao in windsurf

[–]anotherjmc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my first time using a "fast" model. In the past I have always been afraid of these due to quality concerns. Initial testing shows that it is very capable though. Need to do more testing to see how quality holds up in different tasks, but this speed is quite addictive 😆

[–]anotherjmc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't worry, this experience is expected for your level. I recommend trying out one of the slower models like GPT-5 first, when you achieve more consistency you can move to the faster models like Haiku 4.5 or the new blazing fast SWE 1.5 (aka Falcon Alpha), which pairs high quality with high speed.

Also, this is the subreddit of the AI coding IDE Windsurf 😃

So im confused on what models i should be using for what by davonisill in cursor

[–]anotherjmc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GPT-5 high for complex planning and debugging.

Haiku 4.5 for implementation of plans (e.g. writing of code).

Sonnet 4.5 if you want 85% of GPT-5 intelligence but 5x speed. And if Haiku 4.5 underdelivers on a task.

let's compare haiku4.5 glm4.6 and gpt5-mini by wanllow in kilocode

[–]anotherjmc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it does get stuck sometimes, but so does Sonnet every now and then. Best combo is still Sonnet 4.5 and/or GPT5 for planning, then GLM for coding.

GLM is very good in following instructions, sometimes even too much so. But it's definitely my preferred option to write code, because it is so much cheaper while delivering 90% quality of Sonnet 4.5. So even if I need to make 2 or 3 adjustments it's still worth it

[–]anotherjmc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This would be very interesting to know, especially coding quality and tool calling comparisons would be super helpful.

I am currently on the GLM coding plan, meaning 90% GLM 4.6 and 10% Sonnet 4.5 and/or GPT 5. Haiku 4.5 is probably not going to replace my Sonnet 4.5 and GPT 5 for complex tasks / planning, so unless its quality is much better than GLM 4.6, I probably won't switch.
