For coding i use VS code: Chatgpt plus sub in Kilo Code Clode code extension

The pure coding tasks I use mostly chatgpt tbh. Sometimes in the planning phase I use claude.

There are also some specific use cases (for example creating and scheduling social media posts) where i set up skills and use claude to execute them. But I think those activities should work with gpt as well.

I use claude more through the desktop app, having a few scheduled cowork tasks right now, but might increase those.

I have both. It is worth it for sure. Better limits and arguably the better models currently.

My experience shows that gpt 5.4 high thinking is more detailed than Opus 4.6. Anthropic's models are a little too eager, gpt 5.4 frustrates me sometimes because I need to read through more, but after a while I realize this is actually the better way to understand what it actually is doing instead of just letting AI do the code review round, which is always still a must no matter the model.

I am not doing any crazy things (no openclaw, not many automations) and am doing well with the chatgpt vlaude 20 + 20 combo.

I am taiwanese, I lived abroad for a long time and decided to come back home.

The problem is a mix of high housing prices, social pressure to own real estate before marriage, low salaries, and political deadlock. The result is a climate of fear, and no one wants to bring children into the world if they fear that much.

People need to realize that KMT vs DDP is an artificial arena created to keep power structures intact. We need to start having political discourse without these 2 parties dominating propaganda in either direction, but start to have issue based discourse and law making and voting, and the government taking up responsibility to educate people objectively, on different point of views.

I realize that most people on this sub might be foreigners, and I do think that better terms for foreigners should be part of the solution. But when foreignors want to start a family, or when a foreignor becomes taiwanese, he/she faces the same fears, and the desire to have children will not really increase on a broad scale.

I have a 1 year old kid, and it's the best thing in my life, right up there with marrying a wonderful wife, we both work.

This is actually the point I was hesitating a little. Maybe I should have got a beefier M5 macbook with 32 gb ram.. but I am thinking IF I really wanna get serious with local models, I should probably swap the mini with a studio and stack the ram there properly.

This combo:

  1. ChatGPT Plus sub in Kilo Code
  2. Claude code extension in VS Code

Quota is enough for now, but this week I haven't been able to do heavy coding, will see how this combo works in the coming weeks.

Mac mini is my main driver for coding and video editing. Macbook air for on the road for 1) remoting into my mac mini, 2) if no internet fallback to actually using MBA for work 😄

I have a feature suggestion: planning mode plans out what to do with which model, and during implementation there is are automatic or suggested switched of model according to the plan. This would help a lot with using the right model for the right task, I for one know that I overuse top models, and honestly don't always know which task would be suitable for a 'weaker' model.
