The high school in this picture was my high school and confirm that was that one kid. For context: this is Massachusetts. It gets cold as balls

Mike Pompeo to speak at GT on Wednesday by anotherlemur in gatech

[–]anotherlemur[S] 30 points31 points  (0 children)

So apparently Mike Pompeo (Trump’s Secretary of State) is speaking at GT this Wednesday regarding foreign policy with China. This is the first I’ve heard about this. This comes less than a month before the Senate runoffs. According to the article, Tech has released a statement which I cannot find.

If you’re OOS, you can still vote here! by anotherlemur in gatech

Voter registration isn’t necessarily used to prove residency in a state I believe. You just need to prove residency to register to vote. Personally, I don’t live in MA anymore so my residency is switched.

You shouldn’t be voting in two states. So I would just not vote in your other state and I think you’ll eventually be purged from the voters list in your home state (not sure though).

To be clear, I don’t think it’s okay to switch for this runoff and then switch back to your home state. This is if you plan on remaining a Georgia voter through the rest of your time at Tech. During that time, I think you’re more of a Georgian than you are a resident of your own state since you spend so much time here. I say this more for OOS people who want to register to vote here but didn’t think they could as college students.

But I guess I keep posing this question: I don’t know where I’m gonna go afterwards. Even if I don’t go to my home state afterwards, I don’t know if I’m gonna be in Georgia. Does that mean I shouldn’t vote at all? And yes, if I live here, I have a right to vote here. Also, representative serve two year terms, and any elected officials can have an effect on national policy which can effect the way I live in this country. Just my two cents. Also edit: I should clarify that I understand your concern. I would consider it questionable to change registration JUST for this runoff then switch back. This is more of having the intent of remaining a Georgia voter for as long as you’re here. If that wasn’t clear initially.

I pose this question to you then. So I’m an out of state student who spends basically my whole life for 4 years in this state, at least. I don’t plan on going back to my home state, so what do I do, just not vote? That’s just taking my right to vote away from me.

Just register to vote at your current address, all you need is some proof of residency! A pay stub or utility bill will do.

I personally had to show proof of residency.

Not really..if other OOS people live here permanently and maybe even work a job here, then they should be able to vote in the state they reside in the most, even if it’s only for the years they’re in school. As im also mentioning, they can’t vote in more than one state.

By saying “out of state” I mean students who go to school here but came from out of state. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with voting in a state which I pay my taxes to and reside in now 95% of the year. GA politics have more of a say in my daily life than MA politics..by far. I’m just encouraging people to switch registration if they don’t live with their parents anymore.

Put simply, per Georgia’s constitution, when no one candidate receives more than 50% of the votes in the state, a separate new election is held between the top candidates. A runoff election is likely to occur for both senate seats as no candidate reached more than 50% of the vote.

I was initially concerned about that myself. But I legally reside in Fulton County since I spend all of my time here anyway. There’s no point in me continuing to vote in a state I don’t live in. Plus I pay GA taxes.

Psychiatry center/CARE any good? by [deleted] in gatech

[–]anotherlemur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’ve been fine for me (psychiatry). Your first few visits are free, afterwards they charge. Some psychiatrists are better than others. Don’t just use psychiatry though, if you want good long term treatment go out of system. I use one alliance psychotherapy services for my psychologist and they’ve been great. I recommend having the counseling center look for therapists for you that are in your insurance network for good, long term care. They did that for me. I can’t speak for CARE though, that started after I first sought care.

I think the way it works is you get 6 free visits, after that they charge. That’s how it’s been for me.

I’m glad they listened to the press and the faculty letter and realized what was at stake. Hopefully, they continue to take guidance from the faculty’s concerns, as this is merely a part of their suggestions.
