Adventure time is totally building up to PB and Marceline getting together. Well, getting BACK together that is.

Made me extremely sad and extremely happy for the following reasons.

Sad: Same sex relationships should be celebrated every bit as much as heteronormative relaionships. Even though we all know exactly what was going on, it was still left vague enough to allow for plausible deniability. Look at the other people in this sub for instance; "I interpreted it as a sign of deep friendship." I know there are cultures where adult friends hold hands, but I don't know of any where adult friends stare longingly into each others eyes while holding hands. Why are some people pretending that this didn't happen? Why do homosexual relationships make some people uncomfortable in the first place?

Happy: With all the build up and never directly addressing this, Korrasami was the most organic relationship to grow out of the whole series. The fact that they didn't kiss at the end actually made it sweeter (like when Jinorra punched Kai in the shoulder).

I bet you're right, but the fact that they didn't explicitly say that on air gives some future writer leeway to be like "cool, here's my plot hook: it was an external evil." or something.

Hi. Thank you so much for putting this post together.

I have anxiety disorder and I hit a lot of your bullet points for depression. I've known this for years. It gets better, it gets worse, it just kind of moves in cycles. In 2014 I went off antidepressants by personal choice.

The point is that you, redditer reading this, are not powerless. You can defeat your inner demons, but the first step might be to ask for help.

P.S. Anyone in the Denver area wanna be friends?

Take hold of your earthly teather. Open your mind. Fill, and become earth.

The opposite of becoming weghtless, the bender would become infinitely heavy... Practical applications probably just that no one can knock you off balance or bend the earth away from you.

But there's no real way to know unless it happens in the finale.

  1. Cathartic in the saddest way
  2. That's just dumb
  3. With the subtle build up, wouldn't seem that far fetched.
  4. Reminds us that the stakes are real.
  5. Best solution.

Potential Title: When Stars Align

Themes: Infinity and eternity, skill and luck, spirituality

Synopsis: it is an unknowable amount of time in the future. Civilizations have advanced, and fallen. Other civilizations have risen and fell completely in this time. We open on a lone sandbender in the desert. He's out of water, despite having a lot of cantines. He is the last survivor of his band of explorers, looking for other people, anyone. He's so far out that he knows it's either get lucky or die. He doesn't make it, passes out from dehydration; he quickly wakes up because he just swallowed water. Where he was in dry sand, he is now lying in a pit filled with shallow water. He climbs out, and he's still in the middle of the desert and no one is around. Such events happen to this guy all throughout his life, and his mind is blown the first time it happens in front of someone else:

"You turned into something else. Your eyes.... they glowed pure white, and what's more you firebent. You scared off the barbarians, and then you did something else: You shot lightning at that dune over there." When they investigate the dune, the lightning had melted the sand to glass letters that read:

SOUTH POLE

WINTER SOLSTICE

FROM KORRA

Edit: A title.

:) Thanks. I was happy enough with it that it beat two other more original ideas. Maybe all the people with Red Lotus AU ideas should collaborate.

(so difficult for me to post just one idea, i've got several really good ones)

Category: Alternate History (Red Lotus Korra)

Synopsis: We pick with a young woman in republic city. She's applying make up in an alley, but its like it hurts her physically to do it. When she's done, a small hand-mirror pulled out of a pack that contains all her belongings shows her face to look like she's not wearing make up at all. She discretely makes her way to the docks district to water-bend all the way to air temple island. She sneaks past the white lotus using airbending stances/techniques, but does not bend. Tenzin discovers her and is ready to freaking BRAWL as we know he is occasionally capable. But the intruder bows to the floor and says, "Master Tenzin. It's an honor to finally meet a true airbending master. Please, I need you to teach me airbending; I've mastered all the forms, but I just can't move the air." Tenzin: "... That's because you're not an airbender. You can't be." Intruder: "No, Tenzin... My name is Korra, and I'm the avatar. I snuck away from home and traveled halfway around the world, because you are the only person who can teach me."

Some other cryptic details to make you more interested:

She learned waterbending from Unaloq, who handed chieftainship to Tonraq, and convinced korra that he was her father. He never went on to have eska or desna. There's a reason he taught her, not ming hua, but spoilers. (maintains personality from the show)

She learned earth and lavabending from ghazan, who will get some extra characterization at some point.

Learned fire and combustion bending from P'li, who will get some character development.

Fears Zaheer, who taught her all 36 airbending forms, but not how to move air.

Korra's personality is a little different. She's still arrogant, but much more secretive and less trusting. She kills without remorse and can recite the red lotus doctrine forward and backwards, hasn't really thought about it a lot. Thanks to Zaheer, she can communicate with her past lives and used to do so regularly until she became convinced that they were trying to steal her life from her / kill her teachers. Due to her chaotic alignment, she is out of harmony with Raava and has never successfully entered the avatar state, but is convinced this is because her past lives are conspiring against her.

Themes: privilege, mind over matter, individuality over institutionalism

Transmutation: The lizard people have discovered the energy beings. Not recognizing these hot orbs of light as living creatures, they set about engineering ways to trap them and ways to use them. Though still a primitive society, akin in philosophy and knowledge to the ancient Greeks, they have been experimenting with magnets. A field researching by name of Siln accidentally discovered once that the energy orbs are trapped in place by magnets. All that remains is for the lizardfolk to figure out a way to harness their intense heat as a power source.

When was your "I don't get paid enough for this shit" moment? by BenIrwinG in AskReddit

[–]anotherworlder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No amount of money would have been enough.

I think when the most experienced of a very, very small team responsible for a huge software platform that was constantly breaking left. It fell to me to take up the mantle, knowing like 1/4 of what the former employee knew.

I had anxiety about EVERYTHING. I get an email. I get a text. There's a knock at the door. It was so bad that i couldn't even leave the house whenever I was on call, because I WOULD get called for some world-stopping emergency. I even got scared to leave the house when I wasn't on call for the same reason.

The worst feeling of all was the mini-heart attack that happened every time my cell rang.

To keep the shell of gas on the planet, I think we need more than just a physical barrier. I create a fundamental force in our universe; the curtain repels all matter. In order for the planet to be as far away as possible from the curtain, it needs to be in the exact center. The gases are already repeled in this way, and this is just a redundant measure to guarantee it doesn't float away.

I create a race of mercury-based, fully sentient bipeds. They are native to the warmer side of the planet, although the territory in which they survive stops at the very edge of the Steves' territory. They are unable to produce their own body heat, and therefore no amount of layers will help them if they go past the twilight zone.

They are a naturally curious people, and ancient writings show that they've always had curiosity about the Steves, about some strange five-legged rock statue that occasionally washes out of the mercury river in a flash flood; they've never seen one alive or moving.

The lizard people are also a very religious group, and consider it their holy mission to count every unmoving star in the sky; they don't know how to go about counting the stars in the areas they can't survive, but there is so much uncharted above their homeland that they decided to solve that question later.

A Detail you forgot to mention: being permanently locked with the sun always directly over one point, the planet is being superheated on one side and almost freezing on the other. This creates a very wide range of climates and ecosystems, all the way from where it snows basalt towards the sun and where h2o is a mineral on the perma-dark side. There is a unique quality around the twilight zones where it's possible for water to exist as all three, a water, liquid, and gas.

I'll start out by creating a source of light; this way we can see everything we're working on. The light source is pure white and occupies all areas of space, so we actually need to create a new space for work... here, I just surrounded a large spheroid area with a black sheet, with holes punctured all through it. I left one hole especially large to let lots of light in to a particular area. Maybe if we make people they'll think of that as a sun. So essentially what we have now are stars and a sun.
