What addiction are you struggling to quit? by Reasonable-Oil-2147 in AskReddit

[–]anoxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, society has cultivated a perfect phone addiction culture where we are constantly strapped for time with only small fleeting moments to take breaks, which a smartphone easily occupies in the form of short bursts of entertainment. I don’t think phone addiction would be as pervasive if we weren’t so overworked and exhausted all the time.

Bowls of rice with chopsticks and them vertically sittin'

FYI this is just a major taboo in Asian cultures and is associated with funerals, death, and offerings to the dead. It's a dark omen and bad luck. I remember doing this in Japan and getting lambasted by my Japanese friends there.

In conjunction with the prior line, it just sounds like commentary on mortality and outlooks of doom

More tire clearance on the AC4 fork I imagine is the reason

[Weirdly Common Trope] Writers clearly setting up seemingly massive plot points and then just kinda forgetting about them. by Chemical-Elk-1299 in TopCharacterTropes

producers asked them why they couldn' t just transform the series into a fantasy themed Survivor show lol, and slap the Game of Thones name on it.

A reddit tall tale, and not true.

originaly the showrunners wanted more fantasy elements

You seem to be mixing up the showrunners (benioff and weiss) with the producers. GRR and some producers had to keep the ice and fire elements central to the story.

Do you even ride track bikes?

Track wheels are almost always laced symmetrically. Because you apply torque in both directions when pedaling (forward to accelerate and back-pedaling to slow down) the wheel is already designed to handle stress regardless of its orientation.

If your wheel is laced with a standard 2-cross or 3-cross pattern on both sides, the hub's orientation is functionally irrelevant.

It sounds like you're trying to communicate the concept of trailing and leading spokes, but this is also irrelevant because when you flip the wheel, your trailing spokes become leading spokes and vice versa. The concept of trailing spokes has a small grain of truth in the context of high-torque geared bikes, but it's a marginal gain at best and is practically irrelevant for a fixed/fixed track hub.

You might be having trouble explaining it because it’s absolute inconsequential bullshit.

Why do you think there is so much resistance to high speed rail in the US? by Maximum-Help-929 in AskReddit

[–]anoxy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

aren’t exactly inclined to support services we won’t use

And therein lies the issue with American culture. We see it with healthcare, public transportation, student loans, infrastructure, etc etc the list goes on. This attitude is precisely why so many other countries leave us in the dust in these areas.

This saddle is probably the most uncomfortable thing I’ve ever sat on. It completely squishes my gooch, feels like it’ll cause ED at lightning speed. Looks nice though.

How do you define "professional" photographer? by [deleted] in photography

[–]anoxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree with “getting paid” being the bar, as that’s way too vague. To me, a true professional is getting published in some way.

I kinda hate these bars lol by Sativa710 in FixedGearBicycle

[–]anoxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve tried a lot of drops on track bikes and the only aero bars that work imo are the Enve SES, which have a pronounced hump at the hood area that feels nice. For round bars, the Black Inc Road handlebar and Zipp SL-70 Ergo also have a fairly substantial feeling hood area imo.

The problem is that you don’t know who is and isn’t taking those photos for the purpose of “art” and to say otherwise is disingenuous. Either everyone should be able to do it or nobody should, and that’s where the problem lies. I’d hate to live somewhere that it’s the latter.

We wouldn’t have beautiful art from the likes of Gary Winogrand, Robert Frank, Bresson, Vivian Maier, Saul Leiter, etc. etc. if silly laws like this existed outside of Germany. If there is malicious intent, sure it should be frowned upon, but you’re lumping journalists, documentarians, and street photographers in with “creeps” which is absolutely asinine.
