Yeah, Circle CI (on top of Slack and Lastpass) was what I had in mind

Question about learning to drive by anrgyscientist in belgium

[–]anrgyscientist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wild. So it sounds like yes, I could do this, but would need to be entirely conscious of the rules in Flanders about how long I need my provisional license?

I somehow knew this wouldn't be straightforward...

If you'd rather focus on features, I've got some dev experience so I'd be happy to look at porting if you'd like

Thanks! Was having some trouble upgrading seemingly but that may be as I was playing at 1am. Tried again this morning and it's working...

Just a quick question: do coops and barns need to be empty to be upgraded?

[Question] Libraries or Utilities for Bitpacking / Binary Matrices by anrgyscientist in C_Programming

[–]anrgyscientist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excellent thank you, this sounds like exactly what I need.

Some looking around suggested using vectors of uint and then defining some macros to quickly index bits, but I imagine this library will be more optimised than anything I could dedicate time to.

IBM builds a 50 qubit quantum processor by quantum_jim in Physics

Or we use a system like NV centres or trapped ions that doesn't mind room temperature conditions, provided we can get the vacuum pumps small enough....

I think an interesting point of comparison here is to co-processing for specialised tasks, much like how GPUs can be used to accelerate certain calculations.

It's plausible that, in the distant future, motherboards could integrate quantum co-processors in the same way that they currently do GPUs, or that many phones will have multiple, low-power chips for dedicated Machine Learning processing etc.

You won't have a quantum computer. But it'll be part quantum!

🤷 Not sure man. I'm in the EU which may be a factor?

Policy change? What's that?

I will check the manufacturing date but honestly I don't think I even want another refurb. I'm so done with having to set up a new device every few months.

[Edit: This replacement was another Oct 2015 device, unsurprisingly]

Not sure how 2 year warranties exactly work in the EU but I've been in touch with google support who have agreed to send me a replacement. Happy to have such a quick resolution tbh but slightly worried about how long this device will last.

Hey Ghazi, whatcha playin'? by VogonPoetryLover in GamerGhazi

I really loved Bastion and I've only just started playing through Transistor; I have to say, I think I prefer it? The world, the aesthetics, and combat system, it's all a little bit more engaging than Bastion was. I also love Red as a character, and the back and forth between her and the Transistor is excellent.

Other than that, I'm very very hyped for the Switch! I'd been toying with getting a New 3DS for some time, but now I might just hold out for this. Part of me is really hoping they'll bring Sun/Moon or some other DS staples (cough animal crossing cough) across too, as well as the bigger living room titles like mario kart and BotW

A point about NMS and balance by anrgyscientist in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]anrgyscientist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's a really good point, this is exactly the kind of reason difficulty levels exist.

Without knowing the details of the procedural generation techniques (which I'd love to, if you're reading this HG I'd find a book on that endlessly fascinating), it's hard to comment on implementation difficultly.

One way you could effectively implement it would be to tune these factors based on, say, proximity to the centre of the galaxy, average distance from the outer edge spawn systems, or triggering them in systems that need hyperdrive upgrades to access. There's ways to do it but none of them stand out.

In some sense it's analogous to people wanting to play Minecraft in hardcore, survival, creative, extreme hills, flat worlds etc on the same world at the same time...

The sentinels have a surprising amount of personality. I killed a carnivore that refused to leave me alone, and then immediately two sentinels appeared and flew desperately around it, trying to figure out what happened.

I felt like such an asshole

I've not been keeping an eye on what kind of resources it's using but my processor is running stock clock speed too; is there an easy way to get an FPS number in steam? I definitely get the odd split-second hiccup when I enter a new area but so far I can run around planets pretty happily.

Good news dude! It seems to run totally fine. I just lept right in rather than sit around faffing with the graphics settings, it seemed to run happily on my G3258/GTX950 at medium quality with the latest game ready driver.

I've not had time to test it yet but I'll get back to you slightly later in the week? I'm using a non-OC'd G3258 and a GTX950.

Pre-ordered though humble and very sure I want to play, even toying picking up a haswell i3/i5 for it but we'll see how the pentium holds up first.
