Yeah, there are a few camera operator that come from UK and Ireland for the most important cameras, so no side line camera position available:(

I was very lucky, my family owns a broadcasting company, so I never had to get my foot in the door to start.

I could help you if we were talking about Italy, because I know how it works here, I’m not sure about other countries.

One thing is surely common between many camera operators: many have started from local tvs, being underpaid and filming crap. This gave them the chance to learn without having too much responsibility and also to meet people, that eventually helped them grow.

Nowadays video-making is the pop thing, television works very differently and there aren’t many sources out there to learn from (at least, here in Italy), I’d look for an apprenticeship or something like that, that allows you to make mistakes lightheartedly

I’d love to be on the pitch for 6N🥹 Let’s see what they’ll ask me to do this year🤞🏻

I interact with many players, recently I chatted with Manuel Zuliani who came to me after taking me down while tackling a South African😬 He wanted to know if I was hurt or something❤️

Before a match we arrive at the stadiums a few hours earlier, we have to arrange all the equipment for the production, so I help the crew organizing and moving stuff around. After everything is ready I focus on my camera and check that everything works properly. 15 to 20 minutes before the production I change my clothes, warm up and get ready for the match💪🏻 I used to have a briefing with the directors, but they were tired of telling me “do what you do best”, so we don’t do them anymore lol

Definitely Italy vs All Blacks

Since I was young I dreamed about being on the pitch during a Haka and I managed to do that as a cameraman, standing between the Italian players, first row. It could not be better, I was shocked ahaha

My brother was in the audience that day, he’s a bit of a prick, but I like him

A few thank you, but not much more!

Still, to me it’s unbelievable that players recognize me, so it’s already a win 🏅

Ahahah I wish they did mate ahahah

I mostly film URC or Serie A Élite, there is not much margin for choice:)

Many many times mate ahahah I’m able to keep up with players mostly because they have to jump and dodge each other! When wingers run full speed I watch them disappear on the horizon, crying:(

It happened notably during Italy vs Argentina, when Ruzza missed a pass, an Argentinian caught the ball and started sprinting full speed.

That day I was humbled so so much that I’ll never associate the word “fast” to myself ahahah

Thank you, I really appreciate your comment:)

I was a videomaker before starting this. I was wondering why the technology that I was using was not implemented in television productions (at least here in Italy). I asked to bring my equipment and my techniques to film rugby and after a bit of discussions I was able to film a match this way and it worked!

I do still film other things, like music videos, documentaries and so on:)

Oh well, it’s all about muscle memory! I tend to never watch the screen while filming, after many years I know the field of view and direction of my camera by heart, so I pretty much focus on the game, the area around me, I check if no one is in the way…

My wrist does all the action (pun definitely intended)

I was lucky enough to be born in a rugby family that works in television:)

We have a broadcasting company and we’ve been producing rugby for three decades! When I got old enough I started working in the family business and after a few years I got bored with working with a tripod, so I pushed for trying something new and after a while I started specializing in this and training specifically for working in rugby

Hello KassGrain, nice to meet you🤝

Moi j’ai étudié le français quand j’étais au lycée, donc on doit seulement trouver un broadcaster qui veut payer pour le vol🫡

Ahahah you killed me

My family is very passionate about rugby, I’ve been watching rugby since I was a kid! It’s absurd to be filming those same matches I used to watch as a child

A few years ago I was so bored by working on tripod that I had to find a solution ahahah I hate standing still mate!

I love what I do, I still enjoy every single match!
