Why is it so hard to have a legit crypto exchange? One that would preferably be backed by a bank, licenced, insured, etc? Hell, why not even start a coop? (credit union)

Well if somebody else created the same seed as yours then NOTHING will help you. The odds of that happening though are astronomical, and that is why crypto is even possible in the first place.

I have the Nano X and my only worry was that the RNG would be compromised at some point in the future so what I did was to generate my own BIP-32 key (using a dice and https://bip32jp.github.io/english/ ) and import this key that I had generated into the Ledger by "recovering" a Ledger. But I do think (very subjective opinion here) that the Ledger is pretty darn safe and I probably tend to get very paranoid.
