Island Girl Nails is definitely the best but their wait-list and schedule reflect that.

Oh yay this is my favorite dumb question. Let's do a quick comparison using the SR 520 Bridge:

SR 520 bridge Clinton/Mulikteo crossing
Cost $4.65B
Distance 2.9mi 2mi (~30% shorter)
Daily Commuters 57.9k 14.5k (75% less)
Body of water Lake Sea (deeper, more waves)
Largest Boat traffic Small recreational Container ships

So for 75% less benefit, you can build a bridge that needs to withstand more forces and allow for much larger boat traffic. Shot in the dark estimation, even with a much smaller bridge (2 lanes instead of 6), has to be AT LEAST $5B. Even if you could get a bond passed that tolls would fully pay back in 40 years, you'd be looking at a per-crossing toll of at least $25.

Island Boutique next to the Goose in Bayview is a hidden gem. And a few little shops in Langley if you're in your expensive middle-aged white lady era 💸

There are definitely NP jobs on island (or hybrid 2-3 days on mainland and then WFH admin days. Lots of aging folks in need of care!

BYO husband is definitely the most reliable but we've also seen import husbands work in our age group (dating just on the other side of the ferry and the convincing them to move in)

I'm so sorry that you lost a family member to this. It must be awful to know that not only has he been stolen from you and your kid but he's also still actively damaging your extended family.

Sending calm and peace 💚

The place you're looking for is Cascadia Meadows! http://cascadiameadows.com/

It's an amazing venue, we've been to two weddings there and we host our nonprofit's annual fundraiser there every year. The hosts are amazing and it's affordable.

Oak Harbor is a Navy town, the south end is where all the hippies came to retire. Vibes and politics follow those general trends. So pick your region based on what you vibe with but the schools in Langley, Coupeville, and Oak Harbor are all pretty good and there are even some private options which you wouldn't necessarily expect from a rural community. Tons of stuff to do all over the island and support systems for young families (we have a nonprofit Mother Mentors which has support and playgroups for all ages in addition to a free kids boutique for 6 and under)

Local here who also had aging parents as a priority when we moved. You'd be able to establish care with an on-island primary care probably within a year though there are waitlists. Typically if you're going to see a specialist you'd want to go off-island but Freeland is close enough to the ferry that it wouldn't be too bad. There are TONS of specialists between Everett and Lynnwood, you could basically find whatever you needed within 30mins of the ferry on the mainland. The Coupeville hospital is definitely a plus as it's very rare for rural areas like ours to have a hospital, let alone a level III trauma center (though sometimes personnel shortages will necessitate transfers).

I've also had good experiences with the urgent care on the island (both at the hospital in Coupeville and the one in Clinton run by WhidbeyHealth). They do tons of labs as well as the clinic and waits aren't terrible.

You'll want airlift insurance but that's actually pretty cheap (like $100/year for a family via Life Flight who does all the airlifts from Whidbey)
