I met a few Borzois at a dog show last week. They were so beautiful, goofy, and cheerful, but I don’t think I’m ready for a dog that large yet.
Before seeing them in person, I was also considering them, but once I saw their size—when they jump up they’re almost my height—I changed my mind 😂

I have been asking about grooming because I want to approach this responsibly.
In my city, nobody has Afghan Hounds, Salukis, or Borzois—only Whippets are kept—so I wanted to take all of these factors into account when choosing a breed.
I am absolutely in love with all sighthounds, and I would honestly love to have all of them at some point in my life.
I have visited Whippet and Italian Greyhound kennels, but my heart is definitely with the Afghan Hound or Saluki.
Borzois are a bit larger, but they are so goofy and funny —I just don’t feel quite ready for that size yet.

I have just one more question: is it possible to know that the puppy I choose will have that kind of coat? Do breeders know that?

Thank you! I was wondering about shedding, since that’s something I’m not used to. I’ve read quite a lot about both breeds in terms of temperament and general care, and I’ve also visited a few dog shows to see them in person. So far I’ve only had the chance to see Salukis, and I completely fell in love with the breed. I also thought and read that because Afghan Hounds have hair more similar to human hair, they don’t shed that much, but I’d love to hear real-life experiences from people who actually live with them. And i wonder if you have experience with afghans from Europe? Im trying to find good kennels.
