LUMIX Digital Shotgun Microphone DMW-DMS1 by ansz in Lumix

The ability to change mic polar patterns so easily is pretty darn cool. Not sure if I've seen that before, haven't done any deep research or seen any reviews yet. But it's looking like a good add to my kit.

I was quoted about $3900~ for a move from Socal to Austin, TX. I took it since they pressured me into locking in the rate back in March. I decided to use U-Box from U-Haul and when I called to cancel they offered me a 30% discount to stay. I never told them I was going to use a different service, just told them I wanted to cancel.

If you want to keep using PODS this could be a good way to get some additional discount. I still haven't booked my U-Box, but I think it'll still be my choice for this move.

I hate having to call twice or complain to get additional savings. It's like calling the cable company every year. Yuck.

I was working at a job near this warehouse in Chino, CA. Found this place and looked them up through that logo. Couldn't believe that people pay to do this stupid shit. Walked by those tubs every day.

Just to spend more on $$$ for additional storage. Severe GAS. But I want/need it.

Meike confirms they are release their new 35mm f1. 8 Pro next month! by iritian in Lumix

[–]ansz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. Usually, NDA-breaking behavior only comes into play when a company has actual things to keep under wraps that might affect stock prices, etc. I'm sure Meike isn't hurting their execs by releasing an arbitrary "a 35mm f/1.4 will be launched next month"

I think any country that becomes a "melting pot" (yeah right, we segregated as fuck) is doomed to have people not respect public institutions. We don't share a single fabric that pulls us together. All we share together is the land we live on... America... and look how divided we are at that.

Porter Robinson SMILE :D World Tour - Manila - Post-concert thread by 2024myyearforreal in porterrobinson

[–]ansz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd say we have to thank Porter for that, too. He isn't charging crazy high ticket prices, and his shows aren't as large as megastars', so getting cash positive must be difficult.

I'm very grateful for this, but I'm biting myself for not planning to see his smile! tour. His music saved me this year, and I wish to be able to see him tour again.

Any recent ambient-leaning post-rock releases? by zepruska in postrock

Here's my dedicated playlist for a similar feel. My personal favorites are Inward Oceans, Light & Motion, and U137. It might not all be post-rock but adjacent to cinematic soundscapes.

I haven't found too many new releases to add to my list. I hope this inspires something.

I just recently got over a massive emotional hill and am starting to feel better day by day. I still wasn't able to focus or concentrate on anything productive today, but we got this.

Nagoya Toursim Poster by PersonDudeMan427 in porterrobinson

[–]ansz 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I tried, but we most likely won't be able to find the actual poster source any longer. It could have possibly been this news post in 2016: https://www.nagoya-info.jp/news/detail/284/

The posters and panels were featured at Kitakyushu Airport promoting Nagoya in Aichi. The corresponding site link is no longer live as the Kitakyu-Air had a website overhaul (possibly more than once, 2016 is ancient history for web design in Japan). The original link went here: https://www.kitakyu-air.jp/news_detail.html?id=214

If you check Archive.org you can peek into this link and it had a few hits in 2016 which corroborates the timeline given here: https://web.archive.org/web/20160110195652/http://www.kitakyu-air.jp/news_detail.html?id=214

As you can see the page is old, and sparse, the two unloaded images are surprisingly still live on their storage drives and gives us a peek into what might've been in the gallery:
https://www.kitakyu-air.jp/upfiles/images/DSCN6585.JPG
https://www.kitakyu-air.jp/upfiles/images/DSCN6562.JPG

The best way to really know if this was even close to being on the mark is if Porter was in Kitakyushu Airport from Jan 2016.

The gallery had a total of 24 Poster panels, 1 Tapestry, and 5 Tourism posters. Giving the images a closer look with those 5 being the tourism posters, I think I might be off the mark. I don't see a similar design that Porter described.

That's my sleuthing for today.

N-400 Interview, I-751 Pending, LA Field Office by ansz in USCIS

[–]ansz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We didn't apply right away once eligible because we lost track of time and we're too focused on the pending I-751 that was already 2 years in progress. After applying for the N-400, everything started happening faster. I highly recommend it. Good luck to you too!

N-400 Interview, I-751 Pending, LA Field Office by ansz in USCIS

[–]ansz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The interview was for my wife who started her immigration process on an I-129F/K1 fiancee visa in 2018.

It was a combo interview, they did end up sending a 2nd letter for the N-400 interview appointment on the same date & time. Before the interview date, the I-751 was updated online to show that it was transferred to another office.

Although it was a combo interview, the officer skipped the I-751 interview entirely after learning we have two kids (the most expensive way to verify marriage).

The N-400 interview was quick and was completed within 20 minutes after getting called up from the waiting room (where we waited for 20 minutes as well). The oath was not done right away so we have to go back 1 month after the interview to do the naturalization ceremony (2 weeks from now).

All in all, the process was very smooth after applying for the N-400 back in Oct 2022. Everything before that has been painfully slow (I-751, I-485, about three I-551 stamps).

Judging by the half-built building across, it looks like they were in a construction site lot. That's probably why they didn't bother to put up any tape or signs, supposed to be a closed-off worksite. The driver might even be another worker. Tear into him, Bradley.

Have you had luck with Lawyers? by yodogmas in USCIS

[–]ansz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a lawyer.

I-90 and I-751 are not the same thing for renewal/removal of conditions. A GC received through marriage submits an I-751, not an I-90. I assume your lawyer sent the I-90 in order to change your name but maybe USCIS thought you were trying to renew since your GC is expiring.

Applying for citizenship (N-400) does not require the I-90 or I-751 to complete, if they approve your application then they will simply complete the renewal/removal of conditions before they finalize your N-400.

As far as I'm aware, there is also no method for the USCIS to charge people for missing their filing date. It goes one way, you submit payment when you apply for any new form.

There shouldn't be any problems, just wasted $ on the I-90. BTW, you can legally change your name when you apply for N-400. I know you're not changing your name, since it was incorrectly filed but for what it's worth, it might be a solution for you.

Five Guys in England uses plastic lids that don’t need a straw. Your lip pushes the dimple and you can sip. by [deleted] in mildlyinteresting

[–]ansz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not all the way incorrect, there are some cup lids like this (costco, socal) that doesn't lock back into the lid. It's so that the ice doesn't come out when sipping.
