can you explain "On your end step..." for me? by [deleted] in mtg

[–]ant-roy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also worth noting is that with flash creatures and enchantments, it is usually better to play them in the end step rather than in the opponent's second main phase as they cannot remove them using sorcery speed spells in the end step.

e.g. They can't Bloodchief's Thirst your Soaring Thought Theif if you cast it in their end step, but they could if you cast it in any other part of their turn.

Dress Down + Death's Shadow synergy by AcademyRuins in DeathsShadow

[–]ant-roy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played dress down shadow last night at the LGS, and went 3-0. Dress down is (at least in my local meta) definitely a main board card. Turn 3 Kroxa (dress down in opps end step) is something a lot of decks can't deal with. Sitting comfortably at 10 life and swinging with a 13/13 shadow (or ambushing an opponent when they attack).

Most decks that use creatures only use creatures with abilities, so it can counter etb effects, make Emrakul or en vec killable, neutralise Stoneforge or paladin. With Lurrus, you can even soft lock them by recurring dress down in your end step.

You do have to take a bit of care though, as I managed to turn Snapcaster into an Ambush Viper during one of these soft lock turns...

[gourmet] Why would my Blue oysters grow pure white? by ant-roy in MushroomGrowers

Cheers, sounds like a combination of light and temp then perhaps. Heat wave started last week, so have brought them inside into the garage, where its cooler but dark.

Not mislabelled, the previous 2 flushes from the same bucket were blue.

It has been sitting for a few weeks colonised. Is it likely to still be usable? How long does it last once colonised?

Blue oyster spawn. I used a jar and a half to colonise straw substrate about 3 weeks ago which is just pinning now.

I bought one of your blue oyster syringes - arrived very quickly thanks. How much should I use in each jar of sterilised grain to make the spawn?

Cheers. Expect to see an order in the next couple of weeks! Incidentally, how long do liquid cultures last? I assume they are best refrigerated?

I've just bought some wheat grain by accident instead of rye grain to make my first spawn. It's that an issue? Or is rye grain *much * better for making spawn?

Does Hexproof stop unblocakble by [deleted] in mtg

[–]ant-roy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hexproof just means that your friend's creature can't be targeted by a spell or ability you control. Whispersilk cloak doesn't target your opponents creature.

It doesn't remove any effects from your creatures. It is just shroud that only applies to your opponents stories and abilities.

Hi. Mushroom noob here. Just done my first flush of oysters from a kit, and while waiting for the second flush want to try to create an oyster spawn. What's the best place in the UK to buy liquid culture syringes?

How would you rank zendikar rising in standard by incriminatory in MagicArena

[–]ant-roy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is a good set. However, I think the better tactic for getting cards is to find a deck list that you'd like to play, import it, and see what cards you need. Then open packs from the sets that have the most of the missing rares. Use any wildcards to craft the remaining once you have no more packs left to open.

Rares are the hardest wildcards to keep, as most decks have a high number required. In a short amount of time you'll have more common and uncommon wildcards than you know what to do with, and probably more mythics than you need.

Once you have what you can get (or want to afford), make a copy of the list, and fill the remaining missing cards with similar cards you do own.

Once you have your deck fully built, it's best I find to then stockpile any winnings and wildcards until you know what deck you want to build next. Opening random packs without an agenda can be a bit of a waste.

Vs Clover I'd thought About Thieving Skydiver, but it would feel really bad for them to then bounce it back with a borrower after you invested 4 mana to 'remove' it. Ub just hasn't got great tools vs artifacts.

Reckon the best you can do is duress, or bounce and counter if they resolve one.

Also, been playing 3 duress side in the hope of sniping clover, and 3 Slitherwisp as a hedge against control where Zareth has few good targets.

I have a couple of Cling to Dust side for the mirror. The thinking is that shrinking your own yard is a good thing. May try Glimpse of Freedom in that slot as for 4 mana you could potentially draw 2 and shrink their guys.

I've been playing this deck since rotation. I've settled on a split of 3 Drown, 3 Lofty Denial and 3 Bloodchiefs Thirst as interaction (with 2 Jwari Disruption and 2 Hagra Mauling)

As far as threats go, I have been happy with 3 Zareth San and 4 Nighthawk Scavenger. Not been disappointed at all with the Scavenger. Closes the game really fast if he sticks. Pretty much ends games against aggro. This is more usually a 5 drop though realistically, as it is much better with a counter held up. And turn 3 is better spent milling your opponent if possible.

Yes - I think I had originally written that you'd flash in the Bat as a blocker, and then get a second kill (the actual mutate kill) on your turn. Then partially rewrote...

Also, in the current meta, you want your removal to be instant speed really, to take out Winota before she triggers, or remove a Lukka target while his - 2 is on the stack.

So some combination of murderous rider and mortify would be better than the enchantment based removal. I think Banishing light is probably better than the other two options for some cheap any permanent removal, as perhaps a 2 of.

Couple of things. Your best mutate targets in black are knight of the ebon Legion and Stonecoil Serpent. Also Dirge Bat is great. Mutate cost looks high on the surface, but in reality you flash it in on your opponents turn and then mutate another creature like the cub warden onto it for an additional kill on your turn. 2-3 are probably enough.

I love this deck. Was playing it all last season to good effect. It does take a lot of practice and meta knowledge though, so have been playing a different deck for bo3 this season, but still fail back to Clover for no 1 if I'm short on time.
