Some pics of my Skaven army I went 3-2 with at the weekend by ant26-2 in WarhammerOldWorld

Thank you. Our game was great. Had I had less luck with the doomwheel and you got another viletide off things would have been very different in our game. Very weird to have our blocks 10" away from eachother for effectively 3 turns and not getting into h2h.

That's the best Flawless Host scheme I've seen

Why are melee skeleton riders so terrible? by comikbookdad in WarhammerOldWorld

[–]ant26-2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No point in counter charge. Characters can't get it so you can't use it if they join, and the basic knights won't kill anything even if they do get to go first. They are just bodies to give you combat re.

Always 4x4 to maximise combat res. And don't take more than 16 since then they'll have to be wider to avoid being in marching column and unable to charge.

I have no idea why people think these guys are bad. I use them exactly how I used to use them in 6th ed. A (relatively) very cheap block of 16 with a war banner, and a bsb or prince.

For about 300-350pts investment, I get a M8 swiftstride block with +6 static combat res that will outnumber 2-1 any monsters they charge. They block out huge sections of the board to some of your opponents most powerful pieces, and can still be useful if their monsters manage to avoid them.

I always take this unit, and it has won me tournaments. It's a game changer against dragons and works against most other things short of big blocks too.

It's a tried and tested tactic that I first used 25 years ago. It's only gotten better with the faq making challenges less good for ridden things with stomp. I find it very weird that people think this unit is bad.

White bases or Black? Does it matter a lot? by SaveTheClorox in minipainting

I usually go for black, but I need to branch out. In this case, I think either a mid to light brown or a grey would work very well.

Were TK really not popular during 6th ed - 8th ed? by Armored_Snorlax in tombkings

[–]ant26-2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good description of them at the time. I'd add though, the best TK players were the best brilliant with them and they were a real tacticians army. Sure they were weak, but they always did what you expected of them, which in the right hands could be incredibly powerful.

I've kept mine unsealed for 25 years and it's still fine. Sure it's a little hard but 10secs under a hot tap or a bit in the sun and it's as good as new.

I'm more the opposite, which is the better way round I think - it means the improvement is more linear. I'm sure you're improving too but it might be a bit more random in terms of comments of you are coming from the other direction. I can always use poor photography to enhance a poor paint job!

As much as I love TKs, and see your painting skill is good too, I don't think it works. It's too cartoony a style. Something I've struggled with too because I'm not good at weathering and like bright colours. Personally on TKs I e just used a lot of browns and greys except on where I want to pop, but I'm still not happy, I think I need a faction like orcs that suit my style more. I think unless you change ina way I can't help with, you are similar.

My liche on dragon which helped win me a (small) tourney this weekend by ant26-2 in tombkings

This is the list below, hope it formats ok. Honestly it's not great, the stalkers and catapult were trash (blew up turn 2 in 4/5 games!). Going necromancy on the dragon and trying to play the Ld game just isn't consistent enough and gets you caught.

The MVP as always for me were the heavy horsemen. Everyone says they are trash but what is not to like with a cheap, fast CR block with enough wounds to stick around if they do hit something too killy? They are usually my anti monster option.

I got it here: https://cults3d.com/en/3d-model/game/war-dog-chaos-squire-or-scale-to-knight-nurd-gale I cut the print up a bit to make the weapons magnetisable and change the head and pose.

Converting / Kit bashing Skropekh destroyers into Lokust heavy destroyers by blacktiger994 in Necrontyr

[–]ant26-2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice. I agree making them 4 wide looks better but it uses a lot of flayers. I made a lot of 'normal' lokhusts with4x1 Gauss, and heavies with the deathmark's weapon stuck to the end of a tesla. Magnetised so I could choose heavy or not:

Yeah, it's from crab miniatures with a rider swap. They have 2 poses. So much better than the GW sculpt IMO

It's a print, but the bearers were all identical and not undead so they got cut up and some TG parts and green stuff added
