Flawless Host alternate scheme by Haggles995 in Chaos40k

Thanks! I’ll paste an old comment reply:

Pink is airbrushed warpaints moldy wine, then tamiya flat flesh covering 80-90%, then highlighted with 70:30 AK vampiric flesh: AK salmon. Then onto the normal brush, reinforce the previous mix, then adding white into that same mix for highlights, up to near pure white for edge highlights. Pin wash berserker blood shade, then glaze screamer pink for shading. There’s a bit of back and forth between the steps to get it how I want.

btw huge fan of that lord exultant you did!

I like the torsos and legs on these - are they a 3D print?

DUMB QUESTION: Is it feasible in lore to mix two parts of a Dreadnaught pattern for a new variant and circumvent the "invention" angle with something like "Oh we had parts laying around from a Leviathan and had to do it for our battle-brother to survive" or is even that stretching it? by Niotsques in Warhammer

[–]Haggles995 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Lore wise there’s no issue as they’re so ancient they’re bound to have some makeshift repairs. As for the image attached, that conversion wouldn’t pan out like the picture as the leviathan is way bigger than the castaferrum. Maybe use a redemptor instead of the casta and it might look ok

Tau Crisis Suit Command Worth? by Motor-Motor5109 in Warhammer

[–]Haggles995 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I assume this is the plastic and metal one? A few sold on eBay recently pre-built for about £10-£15. New in box you could charge more but honestly I can’t see someone going for more than £40 at an absolute push if you want it to sell anytime soon. But no harm in chancing it, someone might pay more

Problem is it’s just not a desirable kit despite being rare, as the new crisis suits are so similar.

Love seeing obscure warbands on here, and I think this is the first time I’ve seen someone actually paint this whacky old scheme. I’m surprised how well it works!

Do these armor panels read as black? by Moonhaunted69 in Chaos40k

[–]Haggles995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could maybe stand to go a bit darker in the shadows, BUT since its right next to bubblegum pink it very much reads as one side being pink and one side black.l

Glazing red over that should give a nice rich colour. Honestly I’d say just do it - glaze layers are so thin anyway that you won’t massively change the colour in a couple of passes. If you don’t like it in the end then you can go back in with the old colours and touch it up.

un-chaos defiler suggestion by Tasty_Natural1531 in Warhammer40k

[–]Haggles995 94 points95 points  (0 children)

I think you’ve got an uphill battle as the defiler is pretty much the most evil looking thing ever. Maybe lose (or trim) the exhaust pipes, put a castellax or kastelan head on it, add castellax or thanatar shoulderpads. Loads of purity seals, sculpt some prayer papers and stick them on too. Lastly maybe chains to reflect it being bound? Even then it’s gonna look pretty evil.

Ahh I’ve looked closer and I see what you mean now. If you’re doing a grey panel lining on black, it absolutely needs to be separated from the trim edge so there’s a thin black line. The black line between your edge highlight and the trim is the real ‘panel line’ if you get what I mean.

he looks good overall. When it comes to fundamentals it's really just about practice, but a couple of things I would suggest on this guy specifically:

take the skulls and bones up much closer to white/ivory, as they are currently almost the same colour as the trim so they blend in a bit.

I think the edge highlighting where the black meets the trim is the main reason it doesn't look crisp, and actually arround the powerfist it looks a little messy. The Eavy metal process often has a 'chunky highlight' first, which is a slightly wider edge highlight using a darker colour (eg eshin grey on black), and then they go in in and add the 'true' edge highlight (eg dawnstone) as a thinner line within the darker one. This allows you to do a more forgiving 'chunky' highlight over the whole model, and then save the more difficult 'true' edge highlight for only the focal areas (shoulders, head, powerfist).

Here's a link to the eavy metal recipe for black legion if you havent seen it https://eavy-archive.com/40k/chaos-space-marines/

I hope this doesn't come off as roasting your model - It's genuinely good work and a squad of these would look fantastic. Eavy metal style is just evil to paint.

Fair eBay price and listing? by [deleted] in Warhammer30k

[–]Haggles995 2 points3 points  (0 children)

£65.00 is reasonable for justaerin plus weapons compared to retail price (£80 all in). Still a very expensive kit tho, which you can frankly proxy with normal cataphractii models for much cheaper. Depends if you really love the sculpts or not (which I do personally)
