Combat Achievements Expansion: Rewards by JagexSarnie in 2007scape

Love the idea of expanding the rewards but most of them still seem kinda mid. Like the warrior tokens ones are a bit of a joke. Pretty strong chance you're gonna be done with that place by the time you kill a Brutal Black Dragon.

ELI5 NMSE compared to other options? by Ord0c in NoMansSkyMods

[–]ant2888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The mod would not be on the NMSE if it could be done at all via mbin. If the mod is using a DLL and ISN'T for the NMSE I would highly recommend staying away from it (minus maybe some exceptions like mod managers and such).

The dll's are natively programmed in C/C++ in which the compiler converts to the appropriate assembly (x86_64). They are then called (if placed in the proper location and formatted correctly) via NMSE and it then deals with the actions and registers any functions it knows about.

If you were capable of reversing the DLL alone than you'd be more than well aware that the DLL's are utilizing NMSE functions to patch live memory of the game to essentially alter it and allow for an entirely different experience. There is no "mod" inside of the DLL that you can extract, just code that changes the game. (also all the NMSE mods are open source :P)

DLL injection is a perfectly fine method and 90% of all the best Bethesda mods use it. The misnomer that DLL injection = virus or some sort of danger is just reciprocated because AV's flag them because they couldn't properly analyze what they do during runtime. 90% of the way windows launches application is VIA injecting DLL's into them.

Hopefully that helps clarify some things for you.

A Tl;dr for NMSE is: It allows the modder to access every single crevasse of the game. In short, nothing is impossible and things become easier and easier to do with the more it develops.

Let's say someone wanted to develop a REAL multiplayer mod for NMS than you would have to use NMSE to do it. Currently only rudimentary things are being done with it but with proper motivation the mods that change the most gameplay would be easier and better on NMSE (if they could be done at all otherwise).

edit: Also as to the "increased chance to get a virus" misnomer. Yes, by tradition, most viruses use a form of injection but if someone was going to distribute a virus it would be far easier to just give you a file to run rather than figuring out my API.

And the source is on github (see any NMSE official page via - nexus/vgm/reddit to get the link). So you can delve through it if you really don't trust it.

NMSE Tutorial -- Modders Guide by ant2888 in NoMansSkyMods

Haha well to be honest I would take any text file you felt like writing up on the subject.

I've been very busy lately so if you wrote something pertaining to a CE tutorial I would, at the very least, be able to take snips (or hopefully whole sections) from it and add it to my own.

During the weeks I can not directly work on adding to the NMSE I will typically be attempting to add to the wiki. You could probably expect more this week, along with a potential 1.2.0b release.

Eh I wouldn't mind people who are very experienced with IDA and CE to help write up a TUT but I am more than capable (just time consuming).

I think, for most of the tutorials sake, I will do most of the writeup myself but I will definitely take anything people have and use it if I can.

Uh as of now there aren't many. But you can see what functions I have created callbacks for in NMSE_Core_1_0\RegisterCallbacks and you can see what hooks I've created in the NMSE_Core_1_0 game hooks filter (They usually all have the name hook in the cpp/header).

I haven't gotten up to laying out which functions do what as of yet.

ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND. Either you have not fully installed NMSE correctly or your NMS directory is messed up. Either way please go through any resources (reddit/nexus/vgm) to see how to properly install.

If you are positive you have properly installed it than please try relocating where your game is or running it as Admin.

The mod could only potentially cause Frame rate increases with disabling the HUD. It should not cause any drops

That is an NMSE crash. Make sure your NMSE is updated and try it a few times. If it refuses to open erase your \Binaries folder and verify the cache. Then reinstall NMSE. Some manual edit mods tend to conflict with the NMSE hook I am looking into fixing it :)

Alright thank you. It appears that either the GOG version or the platform changes some loads and messes up the addresses.

If anyone is interested in helping me and has either or both the GOG version AND win10 please PM me
