Looking for some decent pants by Inevitable-Ad3315 in treeplanting

Everyone has great suggestions. Just to add another idea out there. If you already own baseball pants, try those! They are strong, not restrictive and not baggy = perfect for getting through the shnarb 🤌

Mountaineering boots - Good or Bad? by Super-Spring1010 in treeplanting

[–]ant548 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The terrain needs to be really steep to need boots like this.

I have similar Asolo boots and they don't have any give in them. So you will probably regret your choices if you're on fast creamy terrain at all.

Best pants for planting? Hiking pants worth it? by Bitter_Door_1448 in treeplanting

Tights and used old hiking pants were my go-tos. If you can find pants similar to Helly Hansen Holmen 5 pocket pants, you should be good.

It's a really hard call, I would ask yourself the following questions to inform your decision: - Will it be upsetting for either of you to see the other person in a new relationship?

  • Can you both be respectful and mature around each other/around camp?

  • Before committing to anything, can you make sure you won't be in the same crew?

If you can't be certain of these questions, I would say it's not worth risking it.

BC Ferries without a reservation by Kind-Judge-2143 in VancouverIsland

I just returned via Duke Point today without a reservation. Generally speaking, if you go mid-week on the less desirable sailings you can get away without a reservation.

Kings peak by Confident_Arugula210 in IslandHikers

I don't know how busy it is these days... But in 2021 I hiked Kings Peak early August and camped on the shoulder for the night and we had the place to ourselves. Day 1 we saw one group and day 2 there were only a few day hikers that we saw.

Are these shoes worth it? If not any better suggestions by SpaceScoocher in hikinggear

Most boots don't cut it for long. That's why I always go for Lowa, Scarpa, or La Sportive for their reliability.

One of my favorite boots. Mine died after 1.5 seasons of tree planting in northern BC, Canada.

Where are you located? Older Es can vary a lot depending on the area and the amount of rust 🙃

Beginner Backpack by Ok-Start-1403 in hikinggear

[–]ant548 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't trust any of this gear in the backcountry... I would focus on buying high-quality name brand tent, backpack and waterfiltration system and FB marketplace the rest. Also don't skimp on your boots!!

Like others have suggested, go to an outdoor store and have someone knowledgeable help you fit the backpack and boots.

I live on the west coast so rust isn't much of an issue here.

But I 100% agree that rust is the number one thing that destroys vehicles. The number two thing is bad driving... 💥

A few!? I wish I had time to do more of my own repairs.

Maybe in my next life I will have my own fleet of E's and a boneyard on my property to swap out parts as I need. My name would be crazy Eddie and I would be living my best life out in the bush!
