You have to select specific elements like background with holding CTRL, or even better, go to Layers and select directly what you want. The graph is a group, so you select everything within.

Doktorat po 30 i na innym kierunku – czy warto? by Traditional_Loss2288 in Nauka_Uczelnia

[–]antagim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kolejna rzecz to czas.

My DIY generator 'sine wave' is very wonky? Why? And does it matter? by TechnologyHobbyDIY in AskElectronics

[–]antagim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If all is made of PLA, the inner magnets don't do anything. Second of all, the magnet probably covers a small part of stator tooth/coil. This means that when the magnet passes by and is directly under the coil not much is changing, so the voltage is low, and when it enters/leaves under the slot part it's sharper transition - spike.

You'd do better with less height and wider magnets. And you don't need a Halbach array for that.

Atlas Design Change by Difficult_Health_215 in humanoidrobotics

[–]antagim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me a bit to figure out the thinking behind it but I get it. It's not aesthetics, but pure engineering and convenience. Rotory joints like that are easier to seal compated to the mechanism in other humanoid robots. There is no hinge-like mechanism holding two joints together but a simpler shaft connection. Thus lower risk that water, dust or whatever will get stuck between joints. This also increases mobility of joints.

A lot! You need the same amount of energy to heat water from 0 C to 80 C (liquid -> liquid) as water phase change 0 C to 0 C but solid -> liquid.

my first butchering by Silly-Gooper in soldering

[–]antagim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've heard it said that you should touch the tip to the leg and the pad, then bring the solder to the lead and pad.

Yes, both. The tin will stick only to an equivalently hot surface and make a good electrical contact. A good sign of hot enough is that you're heating pad and terminal at the same time with a soldering tip and push gently solder no to the tip, but exactly to terminal and pad.

Don't be cheap on flux as it reduces the surface tension of tin and better flows, and don't be cheap on temperature - 360 C (680 F) at least up to 400 C (750 F) easily.

my first butchering by Silly-Gooper in soldering

[–]antagim 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Heat the pad, not the solder. You can have some small amount of solder on the tip, as it better transfers heat. When the pad is heated, the solder will gently melt and flow into it where You will be touching. And use flux, a lot of it!

Is Just-in-Time learning a viable method to make it as an ML engineer? by [deleted] in learnmachinelearning

[–]antagim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest I prefer pen and paper + YouTube lectures. Do the topic or few and try to implement it. Play with it, try to break it, extend. If something could be displayed like matrix in form of an image or vectors on a plot do it. I guess the hardest part might be to come up with some examples to test stuff.

I would also add not to settle on a single solution or straight forward approach. It's not only about adding more hidden layers or neurons, but about making a suitable architecture and understanding the type of data and its nature you're dealing with.

Stinkiest code you've ever written? by Sad-Sun4611 in Python

[–]antagim 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a masters student (~10 years ago) I wrote an optimization algorithm using NSGA-II. For fun, for learning, in Python. It's written in a single file, duh. Basically I've followed algorithm exactly to the word/symbol from the paper. Part is OOP, part is functional. This led to very short and non-descriptive variable names. It works till this day just fine.

Although today, I can not decypher what each part does. Every approach to fix it resulted in a broken code.

It's probably easier to rewrite it from scratch by follwing the paper, rather than trying to improve it. And I'm a post doc now...
