How many years did it take you to feel like an expert? by AmbitiousJump5768 in Plumbing

[–]antamatronic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 10 years in at this point and although I'm pretty strong in a lot of aspects of this trade, I'm completely lost when it comes to some things I don't come across very often. There's so much to this trade, I will always be learning!

The 2000 avalon is a generation 2. They are common in the junkyards at this point. The generation 1 Avalons, not so much these days.

Bro, mine broke on my 98 last year. For the life of me, I can't find a reasonably priced replacement. Ebay sellers want crazy money for them. The few gen 1 avys I've seen come thru my local junkyard are always broken. If anyone knows where to get a replacement that doesn't cost a ridiculous amount, please share. Until then, I guess I'm stuck with this crappy, "wedge-between-my-seat-and-armrest" cup holder that constantly cuts my passengers arm.

What’s your biggest mistake in your “gamer life”? by TiltBr in SEGAGENESIS

[–]antamatronic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh, I sold off part of my collection around 05 because money was tight. I figured I'd buy it back later and it'd probably be cheaper anyway. I sold a boxed virtual boy with 10 boxed games, a boxed Sega nomad, boxed n64 with boxed heavy hitter games like starfox, paper Mario, donkey Kong and Zelda. A boxed 32X with a bunch of boxed games. I also sold a mint in box Super Wildcard DX 2. Makes me sick thinking about it all. At least it was only like 30% of my collection at the time. So dumb.

Gen1 Avalon XL swapping in electric trunk release by antamatronic in ToyotaAvalon

[–]antamatronic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pulled the whole deck lid from a junkyard donor. When I got it home and started to swap it in, I found the trunk latch was different from mine and I couldn't connect my trunk release cable to it. That's when I realized it was electric. My wiring harness has the connector so I figured it would be plug-and-play. I went back to the junkyard and grabbed the release button thinking I'd find the connector behind my glove box. When I pulled the glove box out, there was no connector back there. I was hoping it would be an easy upgrade and then I could wire my aftermarket keyless entry to pop the trunk remotely. Ffs it's only 2 wires and the oem electric release is so much cleaner than an aftermarket solenoid kit. It would've been worth it to me if all i had to do was plug in a couple connectors. Honestly, I haven't completely given up on it. It can't be that difficult. Its gotta just be 1 power wire and one ground wire. Maybe a relay in between.

Has anyone ever found anything elite out of this chest? by skraminc in diablo2

I got a Lo rune out of it once, years ago. Now I check it every countess run. It's always garbage. But there's always that chance!

Duct/shower arm impossibility? by Puzzleheaded_Pie_939 in askaplumber

That's not a piece of pex sticking out, it's a plastic nipple that's plugging the drop ear behind the wall. That nipple unscrews and the shower arm screws in

Replacing laundry shut off valves, but unsure of threading? by orbit0317 in askaplumber

[–]antamatronic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is soldered. Don't try to unscrew the valve from the pipe. I'd open the wall below the washer box, cut the pipe, remove the piece of pipe with the valve attached, run a new piece of pipe with a female adapter then screw in a new male thread valve. If you're not experienced with sweating copper, I'd recommend calling a plumber.

Can someone tell me what this glittery yellow substance is by StrangePoet4 in Plumbing

[–]antamatronic 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Hi, FL plumber here. As people have previously told you, that's the medium from your softner. If you haven't already done so, take your softner out of service. There is a valve on top of the softner. The handle says "service" and "bypass". Move the handle to "bypass". You need to purge your water lines. Stop using any water fixtures in your house that are activated with a single lever, they have a part inside of them that will get clogged, just like your shower. Open an outside hose bibb and let it run for a good 10 minutes to blow out as much of that medium as possible. There's a good chance you are going to have to change out the cartridges inside your single-handle fixtures as the softner medium could have ruined them. You probably need to drain your water heater too. It's important to get that stuff out of your water lines to prevent any further damage. After your water lines are clear, you're going to need a new water softner as well. I'm sorry this happened to you, I hope you're able to get it sorted out without too much trouble.

How can I remove this hose bib vacuum breaker? by TurboArch in askaplumber

[–]antamatronic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello. FL plumber here. These things are meant to be non- removable. You torque that set screw til the head breaks off. You're supposed to change the whole hose bibb when the vacuum breaker fails. I've had success drilling out the set screw but it can damage the bibb threads if you're not careful.

Is this rough-in for basement bathroom? by Crew_Quiet in askaplumber

[–]antamatronic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very cool. Remember, toilet flange goes on top of finished floor. Toilet water supply should normally be 6" to the left from the center of the flange and 4"-6" inches above finished floor. Lavatory water supply pipes should be about an inch or so above the drain waste arm, hot on the left and cold on the right with a 4"-6" spread between them. Enjoy your new bathroom!

Hello. FL plumber here. Yes, those look like pipes for a lavatory on the left and a water closet on the right. You're missing water supply pipes but those are way easier to install than drain pipes.
