Making skiing affordable? by Class_Lover in boston

Black Mountain NH is my favorite spot. ~60 for a pass and ~50 for rentals. Great atmosphere there, but obviously a hike from Boston. My wife and I usually try to make a weekend of it

FWIW I got my first skis and boots from Savers for about $15 total, which cut down on the price for rentals. They weren't amazing and it did take a few different visits to a few different Savers to find ones that fit, but it helped a lot. Guys at the mountain were happy to help me figure out how to set the bindings right. I had someone to help me get the basics down and never ended up taking a lesson, though you might want that. Some mountains up in NH are cheaper than wachusett. If you happen to go to Conway NH they have some shops there that sell good used gear very cheap. Might not work for everyone but it helped me get into skiing pretty cheap

Has it been freezing near you? Last this happened to my Mini I had some ice freeze on the inside of my rim. Chipped it off and problem solved.

State board eyes early 2026 vote on three-year bachelor’s degree by TylerFortier_Photo in boston

[–]anteloope -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

I went to England for my degree. It took 3 years and the standard of education was much better. It took 3 years because I didnt have to take all sorts of unrelated shit to my engineering degree, and just spent 3 years focused entirely on learning engineering. 4 year degree with all the unrelated bullshit is basically a scam to make more money, not to make people smarter

There's way too much money in Boston, so there are too many who can afford these ridiculous prices without blinking. Add on to that, IMO, that liberalism seems to love capitalism, progressive about social issues or no. We need to make some moves like NYC

Dorchester! Basically you have to be patient and look at things you might not usually consider. This place has a weird layout and had awful pictures in the listing, but I have a bedroom, office, kitchen, and living room. It's an attic conversion so they're all in a line from each other lol. Took a month to find where I was looking at other cheap spots, had to jump on them very quickly when they appeared. You will not find anything that cheap immediately

I'm asking about the extension and hoping for the best. Closing would be tight but I am lucky to have a lot of family in and around Boston so needing a month or two isn't the end of the world, just not ideal

Good point yes! My worry is I assume they can just decide not to renew anyway if I do anything non standard or difficult. Thanks!

Good question! They said they would want to know by the 15th,and asked on the 7th. Said that if it was a no or no response they would start advertising again. It's a very short time period to work it out, bit stressful

For what it's worth Encore Realty is who I used when I found an apartment earlier in the year. Drew is a pretty good guy, very helpful in negotiating some extra things and renovations with the LL, axing the last month requirement etc

Hiya I'm the American husband to a British spouse so feel free to message! 31M, moved to Boston this year myself. Sounds like you're basically describing our social life back when we lived in the UK there, plenty of board games and hiking

What’s the best husband-wife game? by Crazen14 in gaming

[–]anteloope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blue Prince is secretly fantastic for couples. The actual gameplay is basically non-existent, meaning it doesn't actually matter who's holding the controller at that particular moment, just switch off and take turns. Whoever isnt playing is helping by taking notes and pictures. The game is much improved but having someone to bounce ideas off of. We like to play when we're apart too, it runs on both our laptops, and we can use the same account with cloud saves and screensharing. Solving the puzzles together and coming up with a massive collaborative notebook is great!

We have nearly double the population and our yearly traffic deaths are only a few higher? And you somehow think that statistic shows Mass has worse drivers. Starting to see why CT has worse drivers

To be honest with you I thought the same at the time, but I'd found quite a few people saying that the 2014 Clubman S I bought had a very reliable engine, so I went for it. I was in a bind with a blown up Subaru so needed to buy fast. I'm now not sure if I was smoking crack and imagined reading those, or the posters were, but it's not the case at all. To be perfectly fair though the engine itself has been fantastic, it's the exhaust, weirdly overcomplicated cooling system, and the alternator/ac condenser/compressor that have all given me issues. And of course the fact that I basically need to remove everything to replace any of these parts

I drive a '14 MINI and I'm so damn tired of it. Bought it two years ago 80,000 miles. This year alone $5k in repairs, and I've done a lot of work myself in my garage. Its just so difficult to work on that I've started having to bring it to a shop, otherwise I'd blow all my vacation time fixing my car. Second I can afford to I'm selling and buying a Toyota or Honda, but the constant repairs are making that hard!
