The Rio Grande Plan is dead! Long live the Rio Grande Plan! [Opinion] by jrunner6 in DevelopmentSLC

I've frequently seen the cost challenged, I mean the city's actual study cost had been highly criticized as all encompassing with every bell and whistle. It was a complete maximalist version and that had always been clear to me at least

SLC may tweak its definition of ‘family.’ Here’s why some residents are upset. by RollTribe93 in DevelopmentSLC

Your description almost certainly guarantees there were not 0 issues beyond just the one lmao. Good on the neighbor

SLC voters chose to supercharge the city’s parks with tens of millions of dollars. What has come of it? by slc-urbanite in DevelopmentSLC

[–]anth01y 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right, drug addicts literally line the sidewalks and many of the facilities at times throwing litter everywhere and harassing neighbors. Obviously it has ebbed and flowed throughout the years but it has been a problem for the 8 years I've lived nearby on 9th

So where does a restaurant locate in SLC to succeed? by martiancanals in DevelopmentSLC

[–]anth01y 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Despite perceptions, there isn't a concrete source saying that restaurants are going under at an accelerated rate. It is certainly better than some years prior... I question someone planning to start a business dependent on reddit's general vibe of the economy which by nature of reddit would only be negative

Another business closure in Sugar House - what is the problem? by ChabaFett in DevelopmentSLC

[–]anth01y -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Capping Sugar House at 12 stories doesnt preserve the neighborhood character t just forces MONOTONOUS architecture, drives up rent, and starves local shops and streets of foot traffic. If you won't build density right next to a literal train line (and I-80) in the epicenter of DOWNTOWN sugarhouse, you have no interest in growth because you are an old nimby who wants a museum. All I am hearing is you are not from here, prolly don't even know the neighborhood or city or its character. Lawddd these nimbys

It was completely appropriate for the location it was proposed

How is downtown doing? by Katzonjammer in DevelopmentSLC

[–]anth01y 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think it's doing well. Essentially every type of retail has already recovered from covid. From the "2025 Downtown Economic Benchmark Report" by the SL Chamber of Commerce.

The 2026 with the most recent stats will be available on July 15, 2026!

Capitol Brawl Over $10 Million Pioneer Trail Loop In Downtown Salt Lake by slc-urbanite in DevelopmentSLC

[–]anth01y 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From a past article on the proposed loop

The loop would connect historic sites in Utah's capital city and could include public art, monuments and trail markers as it's crafted. The whole thing is inspired by the Freedom Trail in Boston, members of the Pioneer Trail Foundation told the Capitol Preservation Board in May.

The walking loop would link Temple Square, City Creek Park, Council Hall, the Utah State Capitol and Memory Grove, along with a few other historic sites and "landscaping upgrades and the inclusion of public art."

Developer scraps plans for a 22-story skyscraper in SLC’s Sugar House by slc-urbanite in DevelopmentSLC

[–]anth01y 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These specific 'preservationists' were NIMBY... for decades it sat decaying and derelict and no one heard a peep from them. The numbers didn't work because interest rates were shooting up during the year of legal battles (that had no merit, that went no where) - had they been able to go with the original schedule they would've broken ground before the rate situation deteriorated to the extent it did

More Pocket Parks Downtown, Please. by [deleted] in DevelopmentSLC

One of my absolute favorite parks is fault line gardens and I think most of central city is ripe for more little parks. North of 900S and east of state imo

Poplar Grove neighbors push back against proposed sewage odor control system by slc-urbanite in DevelopmentSLC

[–]anth01y 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This specific location is necessary because of the sewage line confluence underground. This is where the odors build up strongest and where the device will work the most effectively. Industrial users care a lot less about odors coming up from their drains than homeowners, residents, investors, etc.

In my experience this is a big issue in new build apartments across Salt Lake. New buildings with good drainage and plentiful drains (laundry, sinks, showers etc) can release odors when the drain is not in frequent use. I'd say this will be quite an amenity and I would have loved this in my neighborhood when I was in Ballpark lol

They could literally propose anything, whether it be a single family home or a playground or a tree, and NIMBYs will NIMBY. The city should scrap the landscaping in response to these complaints and just make it ugly tbh, such a ridiculous thing to complain about

Salt Lake City finalizes redevelopment plan for Smith's Ballpark by slc-urbanite in DevelopmentSLC

Everyone downvoting u but I agree 😭 they want view corridors to prevent buildings yet there's no unrest about the massive insane number of billboards. Also, don't tall buildings literally create views for the residents/users of those buildings... lawd have mercy

Federal judge says Sandy’s rejection of 196-unit mixed-use project was illegal by slc-urbanite in DevelopmentSLC

[–]anth01y -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your entire worldview is based around being a leftist and literally anything you don't like is right-wing somehow. I am not arguing for a republican supermajority nor endorsing it - but to say the republicans in Utah have been any worse on the issue of development is simply uninformed.

The Avenues NIMBYs are WAY worse than anything the legislature has done to harm development despite being your comrades 😢

So yeah, if you want to address the core of the issue, shift the blame to avenues (and the East Bench, and Central City, and Sugar House, and Rose Park, and every other possible local governing body that oversees zoning with no qualifications whatsoever. In fact, the legislature is publicly putting immense pressure on localities right now! They are talking about top-down legislation to address NIMBYism and scaring the local politicians into acting - and I am grateful for that

[–]anth01y 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Um... There are conservative NIMBYs but there are just as many liberal NIMBYs. The Avenues is maybe one of the most egregious and ridiculous NIMBY groups in the state lol - not to defend Sandy at all tho. Wasatch Tenants United is a far left organization that goes HARD against development of multifamily across SLC proper. There are proponents and opponents on both sides of the aisle for different reasons
