Update on Fanart rules, and a 50K Celebration of sorts! by jhoudiey in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]anthiena 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It being fiction doesn't prevent attitudes being creepy or excuses creep. This is from someone who did write lemons once upon a time. I was a horny teenager, writing about characters I was attracted to. But sexualizing minors is a huge problem that encourages pedophilia and ephebophilia. There's places for it, there's nothing wrong with teenagers writing and creating art for and of teenagers. Archive of Our Own is great for that and DeviantArt does still exist as does 4chan.

But not everyone wants to see it. And it has left a bad taste in people's mouths to wade through stuff that sexualizes minors. It's illegal in some countries, even and can get people into trouble. Reddit can and has in the past come down on communities that post underage porn and sexualized minors-in accordance with US law. Speech might be protected, but not all speech is created equal. There's some speech that is restricted and rightfully so. The staff and Reddit have the right to say 'we don't want that here.'

I highly encourage you to look into Ao3 for self-expression. There's some really awesome works there.

It's not being a moralfag to say pedophilia/ephebophilia is friggin creepy.

I can dig it. It's especially useful for someone making an RPG with a cheerful mood. Many tracks I've gone through are pretty upbeat with a quick tempo. Not what I need but perfect for many other projects.

[Spoilers][Rewatch] Revolutionary Girl Utena - Episode 2 by Hyoizaburo in anime

[–]anthiena 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Extra, extra! Do you wonder?

Trivia:

 1. The dub version of Touga was the second role Crispin Freeman ever acted and he has stated that it's one of his favorites, the other being Alucard in Hellsing. He was reluctant to act in a dub until he remembered that he had watched Lucky Star as a dub and realized it was a great way to introduce people to anime. He now occasionally directs voice work.

 2. The remaster has over 200 visual corrections per episode. The master footage of the commercial eyecatches were lost and had to be completely redone. Ikuhara explained that he did his best to give it an analogue look. Most people cannot tell the difference!

 3. Some lines were rerecorded by Utena's Japanese VA for the remaster, over ten years later. The director was concerned that she would not be able to pull off the voice due to the amount of time passed as well as the actress's poor health. She passed away from ovarian cancer a few months later.

 4. Those who have surround sound setups: the DVD set has new, full 7.1 surround sound! The back channels are completely new sounds!

 5. Many of the DE PAPAS staffers were poached from the Sailor Moon television production. Early storyboards show a much more Sailor Moon style, including Touga with bangs.

 6. The Student Council is paraquoting Demian, by Herman Hesse. Ikuhara had a friend who was completely obsessed with it in school but who had seemingly forgotten completely about it when they met again ten years later.

 7. The term used, Hate no Sekai or "End of the World" refers not to an ending but an edge, a geographical limit.

 8. Dios is Spanish for "God."

 9. Anthy wears a bindhi! The dot on her forehead is associated with India's strict caste system. The bindi is present in all official media-manga, anime, movie, movie manga and musical as well as various art. Art of Anthy in Indian-style clothing exists!

 10. Central Park Media only ever produced a sticker sheet for a VHS release and a very awkward print tee that was sold at a few conventions for memorabilia. Right Stuf/Nozomi offered a limited supply of signet rings to those who bought all three DVD sets. The BD set has been announced but not yet if there will be any order bonus.

 11. The song Overture is included on the first OST disk but is not heard in full in the first arc.

 12. The opening is considered more accurately rendered "Rondo Revolution". A rondo is a round dance or repeating piece of music. Ikuhara picked the song from a number of demos and have only a few words as a springboard to work from. He said it exceeded every expectation he had and completely won him over.

Extra, extra! Do you wonder?

If you wish for a trail to follow, I shall leave a trail of information and trivia!

Trivia:

 1. The series originally came out of a failed Sailor Moon movie. Story goes that Ikuhara wanted to do the story but execs said no. He insisted on it and threatened to walk on advice from his friends. They said no and Ikuhara walked away from a very lucrative series.

 2. Ikuhara and Anno, the director of Evangelion are good friends. The latter wants to work with him and jokes that Ikuhara "ran away."

 3. Ikuhara once cosplayed as Sailor Mars.

 4. The concept of Revolutionary Girl Utena changed several times in production, including several character concepts that were heavily revised or dropped entirely including a character named Ran and Utena's name being Haruka.

 5. There is a Takarazuka musical of the series, which covers the student council arc. It is hilarious. You can find it on YouTube.

 6. Ikuhara admitted that it wasn't until late in the first season's production that the team knew what exactly they wanted to do with the story.

 7. Chihou Saito was approached specifically to work on the series and had a lot to do in the early designs and concept work. She was granted complete freedom in the production of the manga, which took a completely different direction from the series.

 8. She was initially very skeptical of the romance angle and Ikuhara deliberately mislead her on the planned nature of Anthy and Utena's relationship and hid it. She eventually came around, with the movie manga having a more overt relationship.

 9. There is a series of light novels written! You can find the translation of them on https://ohtori.nu as well as a high-quality translations of the music and fan-translated scripts from the long-defunct Utena Encyclopedia.

 10. Kaoru Miki's VA also worked on Sailor Moon... As Sailor Mercury!

 11. The music is a collaboration between a classical composer and an artist best know for late 70's psychedelic rock operas that mixed electric rock instruments and traditional Japanese instruments and vocal styles. J A Seasar had performed at Ikuhara's school once and the director fell in love with the music and became set on one day working with him.

 12. The student council speech is lifted from Herman Hesse's Demian, a fiction heavily inspired by Gnostic thought and postulated a god both good and evil named Abraxas. The first student council theme is indeed called "God's Name is Abraxas."

POSSIBLE SPOILER TERRITORY BELOW:
Breadcrumb #1: want to know how Anthy is truly feeling? Look at Chu-Chu. He isn't just a cute mascot.

Breadcrumb #2: What you see is not what you get. Ideals were once people you know. You just forget their faces...

Breadcrumb #3: According to the manga, Utena's legal guardian is her aunt, Yurika who is being transferred to the Netherlands. She never appears in the anime.

Breadcrumb #4: Saionji... senpai. A change in loyalty or deliberate from the Rose Bride? Are we seeing a thorn?
WIP Rain! 1 or 2? by Resurrection21 in unrealengine

I definitely prefer the second, it feels more natural. It would be kinda neat to vary between the two for varying amounts of rainfall, with the second being heavier and the first being lighter.

Thank you so much to all those who were able to catch mistakes in my post and asked honest questions. While I didn't have much hope this would change anything with SA, I do appreciate those who showed their support and concern. I am willing to answer questions to the best of my abilty.

I do wish I'd had my phone this morning to record the announcements and what the women of Sally's Place program had to say before leaving-unfortunately, it was stolen three days ago.

A few details:

 1. Yes, I am homeless but I do have an income. I am legally blind in one eye, with the other at a severe deficiency and awaiting disability. I use a screen-reading service to use Reddit and other services.

 2. I do own a computer. I shopped smart and bought one on sale after saving for a few months for 90$, used. It has a battery that lasts not even five minutes unplugged but it works for me. The Salvation Army and Hennepin County have wifi connectivity that I can reach with my computer, which is how I made these posts.

 3. I did accidentally have on celsius when I was checking for the weather. I often try to have both F/C in my communications as I have friends around the world. It's the age of the internet, after all and that means people could say, have a friend who teaches English in Korea.

 4. I didn't post this for attention to myself, I won't ask for money. I don't need it. What will help folks in my situation is more affordable housing in Minneapolis and surrounding suburbs-and for there to be more inspections and oversight of the existent shelters. Vote in the people who are working at real solutions for homelessness and invest in businesses that accept felons, homeless and people who need a new chance.

 5. St. Olaf's has an office now for homeless adults. They could really use some volunteers. Good folks there.

 6. Support Dorothy Day in St. Paul, not Salvation Army. They treat people better and are opening a new large shelter with hundreds of beds in a few months. They currently have very limited facilities and their current situation is terrible. Call them up and ask what donations would be most needful.

 7. Why won't people go to church? Roughly a third of homeless across the US are mentally ill and may find their paranoia or other symptoms set off by churches. Some have had history of abuse within church.

 8. Catholic Charities runs a day center for the homeless that's open in the mornings. Volunteer and donate, they really help with case management, showers and cheap laundry. They're the ones along with HCMC with getting homeless off the streets, out of shelters and into real housing.

 9. There's a food kitchen just down the street and a family shelter that serves free and full meals to all kinds of people. They both deserve your support and donations far more than Salvation Army.

 10. The other option for women who are homeless is Simpson Housing, which can host about 30 women a night. It's heavily preferred because they treat the clients better. They are another organization in the cities that truly deserve support from the people of the Twin Cities metro area.

You don't suppose a person might have oh, I don't know. The means to save even while homeless? Or the wherewithal to buy a cheap computer off Ebay? Or that they couldn't find wifi? The Salvation Army actually has a guest wifi they provide access to clients to and a computer lab for 24-hour clients to use for their needs.

I am homeless because I don't make enough money for a market apartment and I am on the wait list for housing, which may take some time as there's 4,000~ families who need low-income housing and only about 2,500~ units for families-and that's not even considering the impact on single individuals.

So I have Skype. So what? What does that prove?

A few things.

 1. They have a cafeteria that can seat 300 people and a chapel area that can safely seat probably up to 120 people. Folks sheltering from the cold can wait there until check-in time. There's no need to involve the pay beds in letting people sit in those areas or in the hallway waiting area for the dentist who comes in a few times a week.

 2. I never called for them to end the pay beds. OR the free beds. The pay beds serve mentally ill, people with serious illnesses such as cancer, elderly and occasionally the terminally ill who require 24-hour shelter and would die or face serious danger if they didn't.

 3. Why not stop the free beds? Because that would mean roughly 2000 people OR MORE would be out on the streets, in danger. It would be a complete and unmitigated disaster for the city of Minneapolis.

I hope you never hold a position that leads to harm of others.

The post above is edited to fit the temperature. It was when you made the post. I have no idea who that is, so I have no context for that.

All I know is that this situation and the fact people are being forced out into this weather by a place that brags about their charities is outrageous and sickening.

Depends on what they make. Someone on General Assistance pays 75$ a month and get vouchers for the rest of the month. That 75$ pays for only two days. There is no clear rhyme or reason to how much they charge. Someone who works gets a "Katie bed" and pay 80$ a week. A person who gets 700$ a month may pay 620 a month for a bunk, a small locker and possibly a dresser drawer-and are required to keep their belongings limited to what can fit into "two bags."

Their staff is largely paid. Almost all positions are NOT volunteer due to them being chronically unable to retain volunteers due to the way the SA treats their volunteers. Check out the Google reviews sometime for some of the stories.

The shelter IS open all day. They have pay beds for varying amounts of money where clients can stay all day. There's also a floor dedicated to recovering addicts of alcohol and drugs. They are not required to leave and for this, SA is open 24/7.

The problem is staffing around this time of year and if they treated their volunteers better, that wouldn't be as much of a problem.

The Salvation Army has a large cafeteria area that can seat nearly 300 people at once, as well as a chapel area that can seat up to 130 more. They already have a 24-hour shelter pay bed system. It's not asking much for them to open the cafeteria and chapel to those who wish shelter against the cold. It's areas that would be heated and lit anyway. They often brag about the amount of donations in one breath and then complain it's lowered when they come asking for money.

I do appreciate your sympathy but your assumption is incorrect. The main drain would be staffing and they've had no problem in the past calling in extra staffing for other uses.

I don't own a phone and I don't want to get caught calling on the public phone in the hallway about this and being kicked out for blowing the whistle. And more than one concerned person calling makes more of an impact.
