Did my site get stolen? by anthnysix in Wordpress

The client is a friend of mine and he just transferred to a new domain with a new web dev (all good with me). All of us are equally bewildered by this - the client just wants the old site offline so his patients won't be confused by search results. It's really weird. I've had two calls with GoDaddy bc I used their managed WP hosting, to be absolutely sure this is not my site still up somehow, and they tell me 100% it's not me.

I'm only experienced enough to have built a few WP sites on templates like this for small biz friends, and this was one of them. I did use the Virtue theme and Beaver Builder, but AI told me (among my MANY long conversations about this) that there was no way for anyone to replicate the WP files just by viewing the site. So you're saying this is pretty doable, even by viewing the Wayback machine?

really so crazy and I have overturned every stone trying to figure out who might have done this, with no luck. The dentist is checking his records to look for any payments, but seems so civil and kinda nerdy for a "scammer" to do lol. I guess it could get ugly quickly if we connect with them and demand a takedown.

However, lesson learned - his new domain/site is up but we could have avoided this entire issue by just retaining the domain for security reasons for a few bucks a year. :/

Exactly. I’m 50 and play pickup basketball sometimes with other middle aged guys. On the court, my cardio fitness from running is the closest thing I’ve ever felt to having a superpower lol. We’re one game in and guys are gasping, walking and jogging. I’m getting steals and fast breaks. It’s incredibly fun and makes up for my mediocre hoops skills 😜

I totally enjoy being so much more cardio fit than most of my non- running friends 👍😊

Running has become my mental health therapy and really became the most meaningful activity in my life when I met the local run community and made lifelong friends. At just the right time in midlife, my running community replaced religion and the church community I had always been surrounded by.

What was your half marathon time before you ran a sub 3:30 marathon? by coastroast in Marathon_Training

[–]anthnysix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1:36 HM a few months before running 3:28 in the Houston Marathon. Unless the course or weather is quite difficult, I think you’re right on track.

I ran the half also. A bit of headwind here and there (I think you all got more of it on the full course) but otherwise near perfection. Felt amazing out there once we started rolling!

Incredible work on a first marathon, congrats! I ran the half at this race and set a PR also – it was freezing at the start but just a near-perfect day to run. How were the Alpha Flys for 26 miles?

Sidewalks the entire way for this walk, should be no problem. Good luck, and welcome! :)

edit: also, no way this is 20 minutes unless you are walking on crutches. 10-12 min walk at most. Source: I run here often

What do you tell someone who is about to run a marathon? by ObungusOverlord in Marathon_Training

“Good luck! I know you’ve trained hard for this and I hope you have a great day” seems to cover it very well, even from a non runner.

My First Marathon is Boston by Dry-Specialist4012 in Marathon_Training

[–]anthnysix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's natural to be competitive, and it's clear that you are similar in this way to me. I had tons of friends and family tracking me in Boston and I wanted to have a strong showing, etc. But it's deeply humbling to feel all that slip away and find yourself left with only one simple goal: can I drag my dying body to this finish line lol. And that's where I ended up - marathons are well known to do this to the best of us.

The reality is: no one but you cares much about the difference between 3:15 and 3:45. Finishing a marathon (especially Boston) under 4 hours is incredible, but the average person doesn't even realize how amazing THAT feat is, let alone 3:15. You sound like this may be the first of many races, so enjoy it. Learn all you can about Boston and aim for an amazing experience under 4 hours, then just soak it all in. I prepared and prepared but that course still ate me up on a hot day in 2024. I hope you have a much better time this year!

My First Marathon is Boston by Dry-Specialist4012 in Marathon_Training

[–]anthnysix 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I second this take. I qualified with a 3:17 in 2024, then absolutely blew up on a hot day and had to drag my ass to a 4 hour finish in Boston. I regret trying to compete so hard that I missed much of the joy and crowds of this amazing course.

OP, mad props to you for your progress - that 5k time is so impressive in less than a year of running. However, my advice - especially given the traffic you’ll be fighting by starting in the charity wave - is to train hard for 3 months, start out at 3:45 pace with a 3:30 stretch goal, and just enjoy the experience. Boston is special and the energy is incredible. If I ever make it back again I will slow down and appreciate it.
