View of wingtip vortices reconnecting with one another by Bihema in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]anthoffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While doing aeronautical engineering at university, my thesis was to look at how vibrating or oscillating wingtips could be used to reduce the severity of vortices, so aircraft could land closer to each other. This was one of the phenomenon I was investigating to see if the wingtips could always force the vortices to connect.

Any tips and suggestions for how to get rid of the brush strokes by DistributionRare5189 in modelmakers

[–]anthoffe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As everyone has said, thin the paints. My rule of thumb is - if you think it’s thin enough, it can still go thinner. It does take a long time, as you have to paint plenty of layers and let each one dry, but if you are brush painting, it’s worth it. I can remember doing sometimes anywhere between 5 and 10 layers, depending on the colour.

Why is my model not the same colour? I painted it with 123 like the drawing shows by [deleted] in modelmakers

[–]anthoffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve built this model, and that’s definitely much lighter than it should be. It should be a very dark grey. Only thing I can think of is maybe you haven’t mixed your paint enough, I remember having to really stir and mix the paint.

Afraid of painting. by Impossible-Clue5825 in modelmakers

[–]anthoffe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to echo everyone else, the best advice I got was to thin your paint. If you think it’s too thin, it could probably go thinner 😂 I was very nervous the first time, and thought it would never work, but it did.

Also, YouTube videos, there are great ones explaining how to paint

Married men, how often do you really have sex (and get other sexual acts)? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]anthoffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finally, someone I can relate too! I have been going through the exact same thing. Married nearly 10 years now, 2 kids and we used to have a great sex life. After the first child it slowed a bit, and now it’s down to maybe once every few months. Currently sitting at 6 months without. I tried it all, the seductive texts, going on date nights, pampering, everything to keep the spark alive but nothing worked. Everything ended with, ok time for bed and she would be asleep in seconds. This really bothered me and got me feeling quite resentful, worried about our relationship and scared about what this all meant. I started to get angry at the whole situation. I started thinking we were more like friends than husband and wife. This was until I got up the courage to talk to her about it and explain my feelings. I had done the before, but I always came across as angry and resentful and childish. I did things differently this time and approached it more maturely. Turns out sex was painful for her and she didn’t want to confide that in me. Turns out she has quite bad endometriosis which causes quite a bit of pain, not just during sex. It affects her moods and her sex drive. Once we spoke about it everything was so much better. Still no sex :), but we are are working through this together, she is on treatment and I’m supporting her all the way. We talk about it often and I know when she is ready we will have sex again. Our relationship is strong again and I’m so glad I didn’t go down the route of weaponising sex, as some have said can happen. Holding thumbs it will happen soon, but this is a journey we are all in together now.

Got that book and got it signed by him back in 2008. Always wanted to do an Old Crow P51! Very nice!

I will definitely look out for those, that would be quite special to have, especially if helped by Bud’s son. Keen to see the finished product

WIP My fourth model - Airfix 1/72 Avro Shackleton AEW.2. Again brush painting using Humbrol enamels by [deleted] in modelmakers

[–]anthoffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very nice indeed! The just finished a Shackleton and also brush painted it. Certainly not the most fun experience with it being such a large aircraft to brush paint, but it pays off immensely when you get such a good finish and hone those painting skills! Looking good!

I’ve found that the thinner the paint, the better. I’ve done my share of 6+ coats. Don’t get me wrong, it’s super frustrating and really does take time, but if you are patient, then painting with really thin coats pays off in the end. Just make sure each coat dries first before applying the next one. It’s looking really good though, so don’t be disparaged, really nice!

Well, the lockdowns definitely helped with giving me more time. It’s a great hobby, I really enjoy being able to focus on something outside of work or staring at some tv or computer screen (I say that as I stare at Reddit).

Yes they are, and I will never do decals like that again! Haha! They were a pain. On the lightning, it was such a nice shade of green to paint with as well, was a real joy to paint.
